Adwords question....

I have 2 domains that target 2 different level of users, but using the same keywords.

However, I am running them from the same adwords account, using separate ads.

Am I right in saying only 1 domain will show at a time to avoid people being able to dominate the top spots?

I was wondering almost the same thing today. I am advertising multiple products with the same keywords and from within the same account. I hope that the minimum click fees are not competing with each other!!! If so I was costing myself more money.

Anyone know the answer to this and the mattybaz's question?

You can't have more than 1 ad(ppc) appear on a search results page that advertises the same 'business' It doesn't matter what the domain names the adds are pointing to are or products you're selling etc. They are strict on this. Imagine. I sell apples online and I have registered 6 domain names. Coxes-apples.co.uk braeburn-apples.co.uk etc. etc. I have hosted 6 individual looking sites each selling their respective brand off apples. I have setup 6 adwords accounts(each with different credit cards) and set a keyword of 'apples' to trigger all the different adds. The adds that appear when someone types 'apples' into google will all be yours. The key word in that sentence was 'yours' ;-) At the end of the day(end of the chain) it is you would be responsible for the creation of these ads with a view to monopolising all the adwords positions for the search term 'apples'. It would in theory work, but not really cricket;-) (and when someone reported you(which you can be sure-they would) you'll loose any bit of credibility you ever had with google. If you did this all from the same adwords account, googles automated system would prevent your adds being shown in competition with each other and would probably disable them(rather than rotate them for you).

Just to waffle on a bit more and to suggest another poin in light of what I have just said. If you started 6 individual businesses, with 6 different bank accounts and we're not all registered under one address, then you may(in theory) be able to dominate all the top spots with your apple ads. At some point in the chain, you will have been the ultimate instigator of the adds/websites/businesses etc. and could be seen as being a little obsesive.

There obviously has to be a point at which you become so far detracted from chain that you are not really trying to actively dominate the top spots e.g if you were a director of 6 limited companies selling the apples(which all had other directors too). It may be good enough to argue that you weren't doing anything wrong. You would have had to make all the 6 companies agree that you all organised your ads in this way for it to work. This top 6 positions in googles ad results could never be a 'coincidense' so it must have had organisation/management(you). A much simpler, cheaper, more effective, ethical way of selling your apples would be to get a market stall. Who sells apples online anyway ;-) am I going mad? Just having a similar discussion with google at the moment regarding having a different domain name appear in my google ad to the logo that appears on the top of the site it points to. eg. the domain name that appears on the ad(and it appears as the destination url also) is coxes-apples.co.uk and when the user makes a click, the site displayed has a logo at the top of the page stating the companies name is 'The Big Juicy Apple Company'. Only one of your ads will show at the same time and it will usually be the one that makes Google the most money (gets clicked the most and/or has the highest bid).

Creating 2 accounts to be listed in 2 places on the same search is against Google’s T’s & C’s, but they usually just join the accounts if they find out. They find this out by the name of the account, the account being used to pay for the click, the IP used to login, the address, who the web address is registered to, etc.
