Good Afternoon Folks.

Im currently working for an oil and gas company and im contracted to a site in the middle east, i left my field of expertise to venture onto new things.

The company i am working for is looking to procure around 500k worth of plant and equipment. They have quotes from several companys to provide this.

The companys that provide this equipment is in the industry i came from, i have a lot of contacts and good relationships within.

Would there be any legal issues of me and a partner starting our own company and being the middle man. Having the various items coming through us instead of sourcing it from all different locations? We would also supply the personnel to run and maintain the equipment.

Thanks

Neil

As well as the contract you already have? You may wish to check your written contract to see if there would be a conflict of interest ( professional of course ) but if not then you have the ideal background perhaps to act as a middle man in this arena. But be cautious about how you go about this!

Thats my main concern,

The company i work for do not supply this sort of equipment, also the equipment is not for use by my company. Its purely for the Site im contracted to and will bought and owned by the Oil & Gas Company.

Is there a requirment for me to tell my company this is what they are buying, where from and who owns the company. As it is outwith the scope of work im contracted to do

It's possible that your scope of work would indicate that your primary company should derive profits from your efforts since they are coming as a result of your contract there.

Best thing to do is discuss with line management and then put a 2 paragraph advisory in front of them to sign (after they agree), so that you cover your backside in case they get amnesia.
