Hello

I opened a shop recently and am looking for ideas for cost effective advertising. I have advertised in local papers with some success but want to expand on this.

Would be interested in hearing your views on the success of leaflet distribution and any ideas on good distributors in the south east region would be greatly appreciated

Just to clarify this is a physical shop and not yet online
thanks

It might also be worth stating what you sell and what your target market is.

The question you should be asking is: "how do I get this offer in front of these people in a cost effective way."

But, without knowing what offer or which people, it's impossible to give meaningful advice.

I'm selling affordable, good quality and fashionable kids clothes. so target market are parents that want their kids to look good but don't want to pay for high end branded goods.

Areas for distribution are as follows

Loughton, Woodford Green, Epping and Debden all in Essex
South Woodford, Chingford, Wanstead all east London

In my experience door dropping leaflets can be very hit and miss. Its easy to blow a budget sticking things into letterboxes (or bins depending on the people doing the delivering) and getting very little return... You need to think about targeting your market effectively, which, not to blow my own trumpet, is what we do at MyConcept.

I you need any assistance with a campaign, let me know.

I've noticed that it's boom times for Farmer's Markets and whenever I visit one I see young families that are relaxed and spending quite a bit of money.

How about a stall showcasing some of your product range. You could aim for immediate sales plus give a discount leaflet for their first visit to your store.

If you could do this on Sundays then resource won't be a problem (that's if you're not usually open on Sundays) and there's also the benefit that your competition probably won't be there.

I'd also leaflet outside the school gates - that's exactly your target market so no wastage.

Hello Rick,

Where I would say you have been going wrong is at the research stage, prior to leaflet design and creation.

Research the locations to which you plan to leaflet (socio economic, sic, acorn, etc). Design a message that makes clear your USPs (if you have none - don't bother).

Convey the message/s clearly.

Invest in a reliable delivery network (e.g. post office).

You must expect a circa 8% response.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Peter
