Advertising on lamp posts?

Recently, we won and completed a job for a customer who had had a quote from someone who i used to go to school with.

Looking into his business and what he gets up to, he seems to have a relatively good set up on the go and i am mildly jealous.

Looking at the area he predominantly covers, which isn't really my area but i encroach upon his area, he seems to be putting signs up all over the place, as well as relying on internet sites like trust a trader etc.

He has those sort of corrugated plastic type signs tied to lamposts with those plastic cable tie clips. They look ok. I guess it is similar to what political parties do when campaigning and i wonder what the legality is of locating a few decent lamposts on roads where traffic builds up and putting your ads about 7 / 8ft up (that seems to be where people put them to stop yobs ripping them down).

Thoughts?

I would say go for it. There are no warnings of fines / punishment. Just that your literature will be removed and binned within a few days of it being reported. Keep your literature 'cheap' and it would be no big deal. Not sure what type of business you are in but I assume if you gain just a few customers from this exercise then you are on the up and winning!

Mikey that's simply not true and bad advice - what do you mean there are no warnings of fines? Lots of local councils can and do take legal action against companies defacing their property including lamp-posts.

Not only that but lots of people don't like companies that flypost, so it can impact on your reputation and sales.

Very heavy fines in my area for this lampost advertising, very risky. You might get away with it or you might not. You will only need one fine to regret it, fines can be into the thousands, plus ongoing daily fines if they are not removed promptly. A first offence might only get a warning letter, but several hundreds would be looked at in a different way.

Fines an other penalties vary from council to council, but you ALWAYS need permission - even the political campaigns need permission and are given strict rules on dates, height above ground, size of poster, method of fixing and time to remove them.

    There are alternatives.
