Me and partner are unable to come to a agreement about advertising, i think internet he thinks local press, whats peoples opinions on the two, pro's and con's.We are trying to branch out into a new area so i could see advertising in the local paper in our target area would have benefits. In our line of business(private land and car park management) i personally believe people use the internet to source a company. The cost for a year long internet campaign i.e using a SEO company or sponsored links would work out the same price poss slightly more than an advert in the paper(half page).
Feed back would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks Simon

I suggest using trial and error.
So for one week do classified ads, then next week proceed and place a add in a local newspaper. Then you can even test e zine ads, that are targeted and even post on forums!

Thats a bad idea look at the muppets that come on here and from post 1 and do nothing but advertise their business and bring nothing else to the table

Advertising on forums is both unfair on the moderators ,unfair on the members and looks very desperate!

I think people tend to use the internet more- I never look at local papers. However I agree with what people are saying here- trial and error is probably the way forward. The key is to make sure you monitor everthing you do and make sure you get a ROI.

Hand on heart-newspaper advertising for your business type will not work.
Maybe if you could get a news features for example Local pub overcome with illegal parkers can now sleep easy with the introduction of parking managment something along them lines its a way of getting a news story however an advertisement in a newspaper no way.
    Online is the way forward.

Local rags are always looking for free stories, they bring their photographer and hey presto, free advertising.

We're hoping to do it on a pilot project we're doing in West Wales.

ditto, my bus partner and I are both ends of the spectrum on advertising. You shouldve seen us yesterday arguing(constructively of course) over our new website design.Because he cant stand reading he just wants what we do on the front page, nothing else, I on the other hand want both, that and a bit more about what we do and what we can offer.
