Advertising on Gumtree

The main thing is to make sure your posting it in the right area.

i.e with private tuitions - unless its online i am guessing you have a specific Town / City area your targeting. So make sure the ad goes in there.

There are a few good templates to follow online that should help you, main things include contact details for you, Price per session, what session you cover.

On the "what sessions you cover" part, if you cover more than 1 subject, create 1 seperate ad per subject i.e Private Maths Tutor Teaching Birmingham Area & Private Violin Music Tutor Teaching Birmingham Area etc

Hi

I would like to advertise some private tuitions on Gumtree.

Do you know a guide for writing on Gumtree or writing ads online that generate enquiries?

Thanks.

Hallo there! I run a company that impart private tuitions online.
What I would advise you to do is to try a few different avenues and messages and then see what works and what doesn't. If you have a website you should try google ads (not as expensive as people think and google gives good offers for first starters), Facebook ads and places like the Gumtree. small investment in each of them and then see what works best and focus on that channel.
Good luck!

Hi Zenna

I am quite happy with Gumtree only.
Not interested into having a website yet.

What I am interested to learn about is what content in a tutoring ad sale.
I don't think only writing about your services is enough.

It's all about features and benefits, isn't it?
So what key words would make people click?
I am not too familiar with the gumtree either but I would not give too much importance to the keywords (they would probably be very similar to your competitor's) and focus on the message and what you offer. If you offer a free class to new customer or money back guarantee that would be a good starting message. A thing that worked reasonably well for us was to start with a question (like "do you need help with your math?) but I would say it is a case of trial and error...

You need a disruptive advert title, I do not know what subjects you are offering tuition in, but you need an advert title which breaks the monotony of "cheap maths tuition in birmingham" or "best maths tuition in birmingham".

I can think of plenty but then I have no idea what you do or what advert titles your competition are using.

Writing ads that get noticed should follow this simple formula. AIDA

A = ATTRACT attention. This means a compelling headline. The headline or title of your ad is the most important part.

I = INTEREST your potential customers by telling them what's in it for them. In other words what exactly are they going to get from the tuition. Focus on the end result. In copywriting circles we call this selling the "sizzle" and not the steak.

D = DESIRE... You now need to make your prospect really want the end result. They need to see themselves being this person with this new skill or using this skill to impress others etc.

A = It's time for ACTION. You must tell your prospects what they must do to get started. What form of action must they take? Email you? Phone you?

This formula has stood the test of time in both ads and sales letters. It's been proven so there's no need to reinvent the wheel. Good luck!

As per BusyVids advice, I would recommend you look at adverts that grab your attention and see how they do things, make up several versions of your advert and ask people to rate which ones they find most appealing.

Monitor your advert reply success rate, tweak and learn, but no-one gets it right all the time.

Just cutting to the end

Gumtree has constant problems with listings not appearing.. for no reason and this happens a lot and also replies not actually arriving..

Seriously you need to check your advert is both visible and that people can respond.. very often you can do a test reply and nothing will arrive, happens regularly, posted on and off for years this is not a one time or recent issues happening since I can remember.

Have gumtree presence but dont put all your hopes up on it. As it is local things, you might want to go around putting adverts on notice boards in community centres/ doctors surgery/ playgroup centre/ supermarket free notice board etc...
