Does it work ?

I recently paid £400 for two months andvertising in two magazines dedicated to my business niche.
In the following weeks, I failed to notice a distinctive spike in visits to my online shop testvalleymodels.com

Investigations revealed that one of the magazines in question only has a subscription count of just over 7000 world wide ( figures from ABC)

The other 32000.

What is the most effective form of advertising for an online and physical business?

£400? That must have been very small ads indeed!
Until you can afford a full page ad every month and over one year (and you'll get a 60% rebate if you do!) things like an ad here and an ad there, both the size of postage stamps, is money thrown away.
Until then, direct mailing, word-of-mouth and a stand at trade fairs.

Try to advertise your product in such an interesting and unique way that your customer fell affinity for your product. PP C pay per click is a good strategy you should go for it. Have you ever try advertising through WiFi or Bluetooth promotional messages ? Also try to focus on building customer relationship by offering them incentives like discounts, coupons, deals etc. Another modern way to publish your products on your website using text, graphics, or other elements of web design.

That's quite a wide question I'd say. A lot depends on your audience, so I would suggest to analyse it first. Ask yourself: who are those people who might be your potential customers? What are they doing for living? What is their age? How do they like to spend their free time? Answers to these questions will help you to understand which platform you should choose for your advertising. If they read magazines, then there is a sense to put an ad into it. If they watch TV, then go for a TV commercial. If they use social media, work on promoting your Facebook page, Instagram account, Twitter, etc. If you are interested to target your audience on the location, try outdoor ad (but this option might be quite expensive). There are many ways of advertising and promoting, but first, decide on whom you should target.

It looks like your audience is quite niche and if you choose the right title specialist mags aren't a bad way of reaching them.

Compare ABC's from all the titles in your market, or look at their media packs if they don't have an ABC (which to be fair, isn't a great start...)

For print mags, you'll need to advertise for a while to make an impact usually so people get used to seeing you there - if you can provide a discount code, or an offer for people spending over £X that can help you trace the income linked to it.

Hi Trainman,

If you use unique codes on your magazine ads such as 'Get 10% off with code TESTVALLEY3', you can track the ROI of different placements.

I co-own a startup that allows small businesses to set-up promotional codes, publish them across online and offline channels and then monitor the results in real-time. If you need further help I would be happy to set up some promotional codes for your campaigns to help you track ROI (free of charge), just send me a message.

Best of luck with your marketing! Thanks, Debbie.
