Admin required for using occasional worker

To date, our business has just been the 2 owners so haven't had to feel with employment matters. We're now at a stage where we could do with some occasional help and we know a university student who is soon to graduate who we definitely benefit from the experience. The work will be irregular over the summer.
We understand insurance and H&S responsibilities what about PAYE and pension? To be clear we want to pay him properly and do everything above board, but if the admin is too onerous for just some short term work then it wort be worth it.

    Then you will need to run payroll and possibly enrol in a pension scheme, neither of which is that onerous or relatively cheap if you outsource. I assume you are a partnership, not a limited company.

    Thanks for the advice. We are a ltd company and our accountant does the payroll for us 2 directors, it's an extra cost once we employ someone
    You may also have to auto-enrol yourselves in the pension scheme, depending on your PAYE earnings. Shopping around for payroll may be worthwhile (including your own) as, if the additional cost of 1 person on payroll is so high that you would consider not doing it, you are probably being over-charged!
