address and phone number on website

I currently dont have my address or phone number on my website, I have been told not to put it on as you get a load calls from time wasters etc, is it best to have them on it or not?

Most people I talk to tell me that you should have both on your website to give the reader some confidence that you are not someone sitting in a bedroom somewhere operating with a mobile telephone only.

I found this article to be quite useful tbh, and it specifically states that you should have them.....

Your address is a legal requirement.

Your phone number is a way for customers and potential customers to get in contact with you*. Do you really want to close off a method of contact based on anecdotal allegations of "you get a load calls from time wasters etc"?

Putting up with a few nuisance calls is a cost of business, no?

*Put another way: to give you their money in exchange for your goods.

As said an address is a legal requirement .

Whether you choose to put your phone number up may depend on what you are selling.

High end expensive products it is a must or products that may need explainations that are a bit techie.

1.to upload you address is not a legal requirement !!!

to show a more professional website and company if your case i would recommend you contact a virtual office which will be able to provide you a central London number 0207 etc.. which will answer your company name and transfer you the call if you except the transfer or IE send you an email of the message
as additional service there is also mail forwarding trading which you could advertise on your website which will show that you are "situated" in central London at a good address and they would forward any post under your name or company name

i would recommend a company which i am familiar with its called

office ltd

contact them for further details

You do have to provide an address on a website.
From the Pinsent-Mason 'Out-Law' guide:

"Virtually every commercial website is covered by the Regulations.

The Regulations refer to an "information society service." This is defined as "any service normally provided for remuneration at a distance, by means of electronic equipment for the processing (including digital compression) and storage of data, at the individual request of a recipient of the service."

This covers more than just e-commerce businesses. The UK's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) (now known as the Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform) has previously explained that it is not restricted to buying and selling online but also covers those offering online information or commercial communications (e.g. adverts) or providing tools for search, access and retrieval of data. Also covered is video on demand, web hosting or operating a communications network."

and:

"The geographic address of the service provider must be given. A PO Box is unlikely to suffice as a geographic address; but a registered office address would. If the business is a company, the registered office address must be included in any event."

To claim:
to upload you address is not a legal requirement !!!
is wrong.

(Pinsent Masons is one of the largest global law firms. Odds on they are right...)

Back to the original question. I have been involved with various companies, online shops and professional services with both I have always displayed a telephone number, one as a "call to action" and the other for customers to call if they had a problem or preferred to speak rather than order on line. I cannot ever really recall receiving many nuisance calls. Also most sales firms buy bulk telephone numbers which have not registered with the TPS they do not have time to trawl through the internet looking for telephone numbers.

I tend to work on the basis that if a website does not have a telephone number it is because their service is poor as not many people tend to phone to say well done!
