Adding Memory!

Hi,

I have found the more stuff I put in my computer, the slower it is going. I was told to buy more memory, as this will speed it up. Are these boxes that plug in? And what are they called? Looked in Argos, but didn't have a clue what I should be buying!

Now AOL is upgrading, it using loads more memory, so I want to speed up my computer!

Thank You

Jayne :D

Depending on the type of memory you have they would look something like this http://www.frozencpu.com/images/products/detail_secondary_hires/ram-11_3.jpg

Be careful when buying to make sure you get the right type for your main board, and also some memory needs to be installed in pairs.

If you take your PC to the local PC shop they should be willing to chack for you and install it for free or just a few £'s

Hi Jayne,

I've had a bit of experience with specifying all sorts of wierd an wonderful memory for all sorts of machines.

If you like, supply details of the machine spec. (make / model) and I'll look it up for you / provide some suggested contacts.

Hi Jayne,

Before you perform any hardware upgrade, visit the PC manufacturer website, look at the Hardware specification for your PC there you should find the type of memory your system support , Part number and also information about the maximum Memory your system support.

To be on the safe side always use the recommended Part number from the manufacturer.

Hi,

It says in my computer folder.....it's a Packard Bell Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU 2.80 GHz 2.81 GHz 192 MB or RAM. Windows XP and it has a DVD RW R9

I didn't really knew what I bought, just thought it looked the nicest with the flat screen telly  Now I'm getting more techy, i'd have gone for a bigger one, to get more in it.

Thanks

I always use this web site http://www.memoryx.net as you can search for your exact computer make and model and it tells you what memory you can put in and how many - although they are in the US it's not that expensive to buy from them either.

Fortunately, I have a good anti-spyware programme....this website has just hit me with a malicious threat!
