Hi all,

I wanted to customise some of my current clothes (Dog Walking Jacket and Fleece) with my business name etc.

I'm just starting up so I have a very low budget.

I wondered if there is somewhere I can get a logo made up to attach to my Jacket etc eg:

Iron on transfers - where did you get them from? - do they stay on long? - are they waterproof?

or

Embroidered Logos - where did you get them from? - how are they attached?

or

Something else?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes

Jo

You can find these online but I'd suggest looking in your local Yellow Pages. You'll find these companies that do this in virtually every town so you should have one close-by. Normally these places do both Iron-on and Embroidered Logos.

Iron-on's I've found do last a while although not forever, but they're cheap, a few quid max at the place in my local market.

Embroidered Logos cost a bit more, but will last as long as that piece of clothing. They stick your clothing on a machine and it stitches the design on it. Or sometimes you buy an embroidered Logo separately and you stitch it yourself - a bit like a Scouts badge, but I'd avoid these ones and have the machine do it for you.

Hi Subbynet,

Thank you so much for your reply. I hope you don't mind but you obviously know your stuff so I have quite a few questions about it all. :p

What category would you suggest I look under in the yellow pages as I'm not sure of the terminology for this sort of thing.

Re: the Iron on Logos are they a few quid for 1 logo or for a batch?

Roughly how much do the embroidered ones cost?

Why would you recommend staying away from the boy scout style sew on ones?

Can the iron on and embroidered ones be attached to any clothing materials or do they only work with certain types of materials?

Many thanks

Jo

I'll try my best :)

You should be able to find these companies in the Embroidery section, if not search for "Work wear", a lot of work clothing suppliers will also have the ability to embroider logos to garments - but go Embroidery first if you already own the clothes as Work Wear companies might want you to purchase the clothes from them instead of supplying your own.

Re: the Iron on Logos are they a few quid for 1 logo or for a batch?

Its around a few quid (exact price I can't remember)... The last lot I purchased were for a stag night, and they were about £4.50 each including the T-shirt. (Using Iron-on)

So not too expensive.

Roughly how much do the embroidered ones cost?

I remember them charging per colour as well as a overall cost, so the more intricate your design, the more it will cost.

A lot of these places will quote you for a job lot. So how much it will cost for one or two pieces I can't really be sure.

I think you should be looking around £15-£20 each.

Why would you recommend staying away from the boy scout style sew on ones?

Absolutely, without a doubt, they always end up catching on something and tearing the stitching and then start looking a bit naff.

Can the iron on and embroidered ones be attached to any clothing materials or do they only work with certain types of materials?

I couldn't say for sure about the iron-on's, if I was you I'd make sure with the company doing it, but its on something like cotton I doubt you'll have issues.

You can add an embroidered logo to just about anything.

Hope it helps.
