Activation code for PAYE online

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone can help me with the following please.

Our company registered for the PAYE online for Employers service on the HMRC website and we have already received the employer PAYE reference and the accounts office reference from HMRC.

We did not manage to activate the service online yet as we haven’t received the activation pin yet.

Is it still possible to submit a Full Payment Submission through Sage 50 Payroll for the first payroll and is HMRC going to receive it (as we already have the employer PAYE reference and the accounts office reference) or do we have to wait to activate the online service first?

Many thanks

You have to have the activation code first.

HMRC allows 6 weeks or so leeway when you first start payroll, before they begin to get worried about RTI submissions, so there is no need to worry. Just submit when you are activated and select reqsinable excuse as the reason it is late.

You will have the same issue when/if you start using NEST for pension payments - my old company it took 6 mths back and forth after an accountant left under a cloud and didnt pass on the passwords for them to reset the login (in the meantime they accidentally created a duplicate account and I was getting "your employer has been reported for overdue payments" every month

Like all these systems great when they work but can take a little time to settle after set up or changes

Is this just a Sage issue ?
As I can still submit payroll for clients by only using their PAYE reference and accounts reference, no activation needed
Presumably you use your agent login. I do not believe it can be done by the employer directly.

Hi could someone please tell me where to put activation code when it’s received? I have received my code but can’t for the life of me see where to type it in
