Accounts software

Hi

I wonder if anyone can make a recommendation on some good software, I am a sole trader, financial adviser and so my accounts aren't particuarly complicated, I would like to produce a few invoices and really just enter all of the other information that is necessary to file my accounts with Inland Revenue next year! Please don't mention Microsoft Accounting

I Use Sage line 50 work adequately for me, I do however wonder if I use it out of habit and not because it is the easiest or best, sometimes think its a bit messy, cud just be me-perhaps I will read your responses with interest!

I heard Kashflow is good.

Thanks everyone, I have had a look at Kashflow and I have some reservations firstly in particular I am not sure that I am happy to record my account details on another organisations server and also I think it might actually do more than I will need?

Try Quickbooks simple start which is a basic package for small business.

Solar accounts gets a good write up too and is quite cheap compared to many

Another good simple solution is Solar Accounts. Free trial, simple and intuitive, simply download and use locally on your machine.

It's important that you get the right software for you. A lot of folk find Kashflow and Solar very simple, but find Sage hard (especially for non-accountants). Quickbooks I used to rate but not so much now, they've changed it and I am not nearly as impressed as I was by previous editions.

MS Office Accounting Express is OK. It's free if you can stand some relatively unobtrusive advertising in the main window.

Sage Instant Accounts, Solar Accounts (see software in my signature), Moneysoft, Turbo Cash, Quickbooks ... Have a look at them all and see which once suits YOU the best.

Fernhurst thanks for the info, I am curious! I am a finacial adviser I deal in mortgage and insurance etc and so in the current climate my turnover is not high! Having a look at these products they seem to do so much? I receive money, I obviously pay out money! Need to invoice on occasions and just record all my other expenses, mileage etc. The products just seem to do so much!! I find it a bit daunting!

Maybe try this then DIY Accounting - Terry is a member on here. Or you could just get somebody to prepare your Accounts and Tax Return for you - not as expensive an alternative as you might think.

The packages recommended by other posters are also in my opinion great packages especially Solar. I do know what you mean though - have a look at this http://www.vtsoftware.co.uk/cashbook/index.htm

It is a really simple and free piece of software, the only thing you cant do with it is issue invoices and if you want to do this Sage do a free invoicing package or use Excel.

I have a client who is an IFA and uses this combination himself.

Try Quick Books simple start it is free or cashbook by VT . I will not recommend Microsoft office though it is quite robust but slows down your PC.

Quickbooks increased the price of their full QBSS but provided a free download of a restricted version (limit of 20 suppliers/customers) which can easily be made to fit as a simple cash book system - try it for free and then buy it if it suits. Amazon are selling the full version for just £24.97.
