Accounting Software.

I have being running my website now for about 6 months and so far all the sales and reciepts are done manually and a hard copy is kept.
I was wondering if there is a free open source piece of software, that would allow me to either enter or import sales and then create graphs etc.
I am new to all this but like the idea of monitoring patterns and being able to see infront of me what is happening each day and month to month.
Like I have said I am new to all this so any help, advice or guidance would be really appreciated.

I doubt you will find a free one as they need updating regularily and there are legal implications, but look at Kashflow, the owner is on the forum and knows his stuff.

If you are going to keep doing the invoices as you are now and just want reporting why don't you just put the data into excel and create graphs from there.
If you are wanting to do your accounts properly in some software then personally I don't think trying to find the cheapest product is best, you want to find a product that will fit your needs and buy that. So instead of asking for open source software - tell us what graphs you want to produce what else you want to do in the software and people will come back with recommendations.

It is relatively good and most importantly for small business owners - free!

It provides you with snap shots of your current balance, your future balance based on invoices due / invoices owed, etc.

Worth a go

Its not free but Freeagent Central really is worth the £15 quida month for a sole trader as well as all the normal invoice payment records it has a dashboard that shows you day by day profit and loss. How much tax would be payable at year end. It also prints out all the year end return forms so all you need is a click to send to HMRC or print and send by post.

Really is a great bit of kit.

There are many accounting software available in the market and also on the net. But i am doubtful that you will get it free. You have to spend some money dear for getting the software. Anyhow you can get free trial software also on the net. Just go to Google and search it . I hope you can find it around.

If this all you want to do you could try Open office - http://www.openoffice.org/

but you may want to look at using some accounting software which will enable you to run reports etc.

Thankyou all for your replies. I think my first post may have being a little to vague. I didnt mean to sound like a cheap skate, as I dont mind spending money, but at the moment I am looking for something to have a play with and thought maybe open source was the way.
I will have a look at some of the surgestions you have put forward and also have a play with excel etc and then work out what it is exactly I need from the software.

I will second the FreeAgent reply, great piece of online accounting software. Plus with their great referral programme it can become free, if you can refer enough new members to them. A 10% discount off monthly fees on sign up with an existing user (see signature). Plus a 10% discount for every new member you refer, 9 more referrals and there are no more monthly fees to pay ever.
