Hi All,

Could anyone please recommend an accounting software that will accomadate 4 different business accounts. I have looked at sage but it does get quite expensive.

Thanks everyone

Gavin

Hi Gavin

Your options depend very much on what you actually want the software to do, and what your budget is.

You will find many people will recommend the packages they like, without considering what you actually want it to do and what you want to pay.

Its actually a really good question to put to your accountant if you use one - it can be helpful and cost effective to use a package they recommend.

In the bad old days many accountants did jump on the Sage bandwagon and it was the only package you'd here about. Thankfully times have changed. Its rare that I recommend Sage to anyone.;)

I have Sage, TAS and Big red book installed in the office for various clients but I would recommend Xero accounts. Very easy to use and intuitive. Importing bank statements also speeds things up with large accounts. No back ups or server costs to worry about either.

I resell Xero and Big red book so I am biased but after using a lot of packages there's a reason I sell those.

We recommend (and are a reseller for) Solar Accounts - it's multi company for a one-off price (£89+VAT), it's simple and intuitive to use, the customer support is excellent.

There is a free trial too, so definitely worth a look.

Free Agenct Central is excellent and is only £15pm for sole trader, £20pm for partnership and £25 pm for ltd company. If you pay for the whole year you get 12 months for the price of 10 which makes it even cheaper and you can do a 30 day trial. It's real easy to use and has great support and functionality you can add as many accounts as you want including paypal and credit cards.

So, you are starting your own business as a bookkeeper, but have no experience of using Sage...and intend to use it for a clients books, is that right??

    Have you registered for MLR?

    Do you have PII?

    Hi WIlliams Lester..

I am currently doing a diploma in Finance and have just done the Sage 50 part of the course. I have just got it installed on the family business so i can say goodbye to my spreadsheets!!! and also gain experience :)

The 2 clients i have both know that i have limited experience of computerised, but to gain experience you have to do the job and i am taking over from their existing bookkeeper who is going to show me her ropes (so to speak)

I have got my PII and am going to register with HMRC later this week when i have the cash together for the fee.... Is it the cheapest way of doing it or is it better to go through a body??

Is that the basics i need to continue, if you have any other advice i would be extremely grateful.... :)
