Accounting query for business plan

I am currently putting together my business plan for my new business and am stumped on whether I should be charging myself rent for my home office - covering heating, lightng, electricity etc.

I think that I now need to enlist an accountant for help with this, but really do not know where to start.

Can anyone offer any advice or recommend an accountant in east kent.

Whilst you will claim 'use of home as office' expenses on your tax return it is not really relevant to a business plan.


As far as accountants in Kent are concerned I'm afraid I cannot help you there, however there are several of us on the forums who help clients remotely (I have clients in Edinburgh and Cornwall).

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

As Alpha says it is legitimate to claim a proportion of your houshold expenses as business expense, the usual and easiest method is 1 divided by the number of rooms in the house times your houshold bill (ie 6 rooms therefore 1/6th of the gas bill).

As Alpha says there are a number of bookkeeper / accountants on this forum (I'm one) who would be more than happy to assist with your accounts.
