Accountants?

Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone could give me some assistance. I'm will be setting up a Limited company and need to appoint an accountant. Has anyone had experience of this , as I'm looking to find out what is an appropriate cost for their services. What I would need them to do is basically as much as they can, so filling end of year accounts, all tax issues and some PAYE for the comapny directors.
I've had a quote for about £1000 for all the work which gets paid after the first year. Is this the sort of ball park for an accountant dealing with a limited company. I know i could probably find cheaper but they seemed very good.

Cheers for any help.

That seems about right, you might be able to get it cheaper but not much. I wouldn't have though the the quote included bookkeeping so be prepared to do it yourself or pay to have it done.

I have a package on my site for start-up limited companies that starts at just under that. Click here to have a look. It's not exactly what you've been quoted for but it can be tailored to suit your requirements.

Two words... "Speak to Alan" (and that is why we need an accountant!)

He is an accountant on here who has helped us out no-end. He not only helps with the accounting side of things but he is a great business mentor as well which we find really handy as a start up business.

I have lost count of the amount of times I have rang him with a seemingly 'end of the world' problem (usually on a Friday night at 6pm) and he comes up trumps with valuable answers.

I will stop before I gush any further.

Both Alan and Joy are very good!

£1000 is quite a good price, especially if that includes VAT! It's almost too go to be true. Mine is nearly that per year and I do my own books and my own VAT.

PS. Forgot to say, i'm not a Ltd company, I believe Ltd is more expensive for your books doing, lot more work involved.

    Hi

Whatever you do, go with someone who's been recommended. I've had a nightmare with accountants and bookkeepers and if you don't get one that knows what they're doing they can cost you hundreds/thousands to get it put right.

Ultimately they can cost you your company as the VAT, tax and PAYE records are your responsibility in the revenue's eyes - no excuses!

Joy and Alpha have been recommended by lots of people on here so if I were you I'd go with one of them, or take up lots of references (ideally from companies who have similar needs to yours).

Whats Alan's last name and is he in London?

    Heres his profile..

We're in West Kent - and he looks after us very well indeed. He's clear, concise, friendly and tells it how it is.

He has already stopped me making some big mistakes - now most things get run by him (except when I want to do something I know he'd disapprove of)
