I am looking for a specialist accountant/ umbrella company to advise & undertake my accounts as a construction industry professional. Currently entertaining offers of £95k under self-employed or Ltd status. I want to use an umbrella company because according to the mortgage advisor this makes it easy to get a mortgage in a short time as I have just had over a year off & eaten into some savings & cannot afford to loose 2 years waiting to file accounts & build a credit rating... My personal credit rating is good but obviously the year off will not help me one bit with a mortgage.

I was not greatly impressed with the accountant I used to use so I am looking to change:
  • Umbrella company recommendations? I have spoken to a one which handles Sole-Trader status only; Ltd company is not an option with them; don't understand a great deal of this stuff so need sound advice
  • Annual cost of services inc'd all fees/ financial costs howsoever worded?
  • I do not have all details to hand at this moment in time as I do not know what exact options are with the current contractor already using an agency for this kind of thing but need to explore my options.

Grateful of input.

Do you get paid via CIS scheme? If so, just 3 months payslips should do the job.

Generally speaking you will need 1 years accounts whether self employed or limited company - anything other than that I cant help but think the broker is hoping to sneak something past an underwriter and hope it does not get picked up (I could be wrong).

On a side note, are you sure you should be setting up your business based on getting a mortgage?

Thanks Tony, yes I'm not confient in the mortgage advisor as I can't see them approving just on a months wages. A colleague advised under PAYE he got a mortgage recently & the minimum is a month under PAYE. I'm not sure what to do yet, I'll have to speak with my old accountant & see what he advises.
