Accepting Payments with a second hand Card Machine

Basically I picked up a few bits and pieces from a shop that had closed down due to bankruptcy. I picked up an Ingenico TT42 card machine, which I want to use in my shop to take card payments. I don't currently have a card machine in my shop.

So my question is can I use this card machine in my shop? I understand it is configured to use its previous merchant account - can this be changed, if so how? Also I've been told I need a supervisor card to configure the machine, but I do not have one of these. So is it possible to get hold of a supervisor card?

I know this is probably going to be a bit of hassle but over the long term it should save me a fair bit of money - Barclays have quoted me £16.50+VAT per month for the rental of one their card machines..

It is a near certainty that the machine was only leased and belongs to the bank.

Most retailers rent the machines because the banks undertake to update them should there be a need for security changes, interface changes, or indeed any changes. If you owned your own machine just before chip and pin came in you would have had a problem.

Ok thanks for the reply. In that case I'll probably be better off binning it and just renting out a new one. But it does anger me at the amount of fees that the banks charge for the convenience!

Anyway can you / anyone recommend me a good / cheap card payment processor?
