I understand your question, but if I was one of your customers I would absolutely refuse to let you take payment over a mobile phone using a virtual terminal which is what you are implying that you will do. I would ONLY let you use a chip and pin or contactless pad like the izettle. It is far more secure and my card details less likely to be stolen.

I completely agree with @kulture - I wouldn’t want my card details input into a phone.

A Zettle, Square or SumUp reader costs £19 and are quick to process payments - far quicker than typing in card details.

The Zettle app does have a send link option which you can email or text a link, this works really well and it’s something we’ve used a lot remotely but it would work face to face by sending the link to the persons phone (this is built into the app so is quick) but even then, it’s still a slower process than using the card reader when they are right in front of you.

Or you can use a Secure Virtual Terminal which means customers type in their card details using their phone keypad.

What are the advantages of this though over a card reader such as iZettle?

The card readers are so quick, especially for contactless payments. Typing in a number takes time and is more open to errors.
I agree if it is an in person use case you are looking for then a card reader is your best option.

However if you take payments over the phone by asking the customer to read their card number, and you type it into your card reader or virtual terminal application it would not be PCI DSS and GDPR compliant as your business will have handled and processed cardholder data.

With a Secure Virtual Terminal the customer enter it in with their phone keypad. Meaning your staff never store or access that private and sensitive card data and thus complies with PCI DSS and GDPR
