A product that needs scientifically developed and tested

Hi

While I am not new to business I am new to a food production type of business.

I am turning my food product idea into a reality business venture, but firstly the product needs inventing and testing before I can tell if it will work. This is far beyond my capability as it would need scientific research.

So my question is what companies are available that will take a specification, create the product and test it. My original thought is to approach my local university who have a massive and respected research facility. My business partner is also a graduate from there.

The food product isn't anything complicated, but its effects and its development are beyond my expertise.

I’m really keen to hear peoples thoughts and ideas.

Hi Andy

It depends on the product, the material and what kind of testing is needed. You may have to split this up and get a manufacturer to create a prototype for you and then get another company to test it. Again depending on the product and testing needed will depend on who you use to test it, with some products just focus groups with the general public can be enough others need hammering with specific machinery etc.

If you give us specifics based on the above then hopefully the forum members here will be able to point you in the right direction.

If it's a cake or a bread roll I can't imagine much in the way of testing that would be required!

What are you looking for first? Investment or testing? If you need investment, then I would suggest a bank or maybe even peer to peer investment.

I would be surprised if the university would pick something like this up, but there is no harm in asking (they also may be able to point you in the right direction.)

As AndyAndy said, if you have give some more specific information there may be people who are more qualified to answer :)

Hope that helps!
