Hi all,

We run a pub, only 1 member of staff is on shift at once.

We currently have 4 members of staff, and will soon have 5+

I’ve read this now means we need a member of staff who has first-aid training.

However - as a staff member only ever works on their own, does each staff member need first aid training?

Thanks for the help.

What does your insurance company suggest.
Insurance company will not make any suggestion - they will suggest you seek proper Health & Safety advice - the HSE website is a good start.
Do you have a lone worker policy.
    Good point!

Noted you now have 5 employees - as such you are now required to have a formal written health and safety policy - this should include full risk assessments and safe working practices and shared with all staff. The policy should also include a lone working risk assessment.

And once you have set all that up, making sure once you go through it with all your staff record it in your other 'file' staff training have them sign to say they have received and understood said training.

Lone working can be quite an interesting risk assessment, especially when you get to the bit on how do you know they have not keeled over or had a very serious fall.
