Thinking of moving our mobile provider from Orange to EE.

On EE you get 4G and the monthly rate is cheaper.

I have been advised that the 4G coverage is not great unless you are in a major city.

Anyone got good news/bad news about 4G?

There was a thing in the news where the 4G internet was good but people could not make calls? or got cut off?

Like with all new tech i tend to leave it for a good six months or more so they can iron out all the problems. Its not really worth paying more and getting poor service.

Industry analyst Dean Bubley explains:
'It’s got potentially blazingly fast data speeds but it doesn’t yet support - on its own – phone calls… 4G phones drop back to using the 3G network to make phone calls.'

I would take them up on it. EE has great coverage as well as good customer service. We are based in Southampton - one of the first cities to get 4G and it has made a big difference.

Well worth it + the EE network works on all 4G compatible handsets unlike some of the other networks.

Just an Observation but EE & Orange are now the same company, and they are trying to move existing Orange customers over to EE 4G so there are some good incentives to move.

Best advice is to look at where you would be using your devices and if the 4G coverage is good there go for it, if not then stay as you are and consider the Vodafone alternative once it is launched in the areas where you would want to be able to use it.

I am a happy Orange 3G customer with a 4G capable handset but the pricing is still steep compared to my 3G package and to be honest where I do need HS data access I can normally get it with Orange WiFi through their partnering agreements, so like others waiting for the pricing to improve..

IMHO

I'm with EE, with an HTC One Silver.

4G is great (When I'm in London, not available in Brighton yet)

Only thing is I have an absolute nightmare trying to send texts in built up areas. Have to toggle flight mode as they fail... Calls and Data are unaffected.

EE said it's my phone. Tried it with an S4, an iPhone 5 and an older HTC and get the same on all phones but they wont admit that it's the fault of their network.

Trying to leave them at the moment as it's just not really good enough...
