Hello,

I'm posting on behalf of my husband. He's currently looking for employment but has just been offered 3 days work to help a council with a project.

In the past this has happened but it has always been for 3 months or more and he has 'gone through' an umbrella company who have taken a fee and taken care of his tax and insurances etc. His other work as been through temp agencies.

He's not doing either of those for the 3 days worth and will obviously handle his own tax, but what about the public liability? Can he get it for 3 days? Also, bearing in mind that these things can often stretch out so could be a week or more?

Sorry, the other question is, if the work is structured so that he is actually assisting the department head at the council and doing the leg work etc but the final document is signed off by the department head, does he STILL need the insurance?

He needs to contact the council to see what their requirements are in connection with insurance. If the work is supplying advice rather than physical work, they are more likely to require professional indemnity insurance than public liability insurance.
