2nd website addresses... confused!

Hello

I'm getting my existing website rebuilt into a CMS system. I've been advised that a second domain with a forwarder on would be a good idea, can someone tell me if this is correct? As I've been told yes it is, and no it's not!

My website www.draelectricals.co.uk is the main site, and I've added www.drapattesting.co.uk

for the added site should it have it's own content or just be a forwarding address?

The only real advantage to buying a new domain and forwarding would be being able to advertise under the different name.

There may be a very slight advantage for search engines seeing two domains, but they are now good at spotting duplicate, mirrored and forwarded sites, so in practice the benefits are minimal.

To get the most out of a new domain, create a whole new site (even just 4 or 5 pages) on that specific topic, linking back to your main site where appropriate, and treat it almost as a separate entity - get it listed online in appropriate places, build links to it, and run PPC advertising.

But your first site is targeting Pat Testing, so i see no value unless you use it for linking and different content. Quality content and good quality link building would produce the desired results, more customers !;)

Hello

Thanks for the advice so far. I'd taken some advice and that was to set up the second domain with pat testing in it to help with the seo but use only as a forwarder. Based on you suggestions I'm going to have it as a single page site with information on and link to the main site for more information, would this be a good alternative?

Cheers

Yes that sounds like a good idea. On the single page site I would SEO it correctly, publish your company contact details in prominant places and also link to your main company website for more information. That way you're getting the traffic (hopefully), getting the visitor to get in touch (hopefully) and also getting the link juice to your main website (again, hopefuly).

Hopefully, this helps :)
