first problem:
Okay i'm going to try and summarize.

I run a small business, I have all my products on a .CSV file that i view in EXCEL.

I have to update my datasheet once a week when comparing it to another data sheet {the venders datasheet}. then i have to manually adjust items such as prices, quantity, etc.

I need any software solution that will compare the 2 data sheets and update mine according to the venders data sheet. so for example, if i have a product called simply "1234", i need it to compare that same column to the venders data sheet and find "1234" and update certain fields like pricing and such to update my data sheet.

I would LOVE if there was software out there that can do this, but if not, i am willing to go the excel / access route. I need to cut down time drastically with this, and i don't want to spend all day programming excel or access?

any solutions?

2cd problem:

I will use DVDS as an example, where do i go to get permission or what is a good source for product images/descriptions?

thanks

Hi,

Use Save As in Excel and save the file as a .csv file. This is a comma separated value file and will save just the data, separated by commas, in a plain text file e.g.

Description,Price,Quantity
"Product1","50.00","10"

Now the file is text you can use a visual difference and merge tool to compare both files and automatically highlight the differences and allow you to merge specific changes in the vendor file in to your file. This one is free:

You can still open the .csv file in Excel and save as again to get it back to an Excel format (.xls, xlsx) if you like. You won't be able to maintain any style formatting or formulas in the .csv file which is just the pure data, but it will make your compare and merge a doddle!
