Hi

I currently have a package with 1and1 and was wondering if other people had dealings with this company and how they feel about them?

To be honest i'm looking at leaving and joining another company so and recommendations would be great (if that's allowed)

I left 1&1 favouring a small website design company and I haven't looked back!

I found the 1&1 website was very difficult to promote on Google and no matter how much I tried the website looked tacky.

I will say 1&1 make it very hard for you to leave and transfering a domain even if you own it isn't an easy process. They do everything they can to be difficult and delay the process.

My website guy suggested I buy the .com domain in addition to my .co.uk I had via 1&1 so at least I could trade while the change was going through.

12 weeks on and 1&1 are still trying to take payments from my business bank account.

They won't let you go without a fight!

I know what you mean about being the sites looking tacky
i hate the look of my site and i need a professional to sort this out for me?

If you dont mind me asking who did you use?

I am not a big fan of 1 and 1 as once they have you in their grips, it is virtually impossible to get away from them.

Why not build your own sites using WordPress (WP)? There are thousands of themes whereby you can easily change the appearance of your whole website in just seconds. You can also use 'plugins' and these change the functionality of your website.

For example if you want to add a gallery of images, install Google Maps, add a contact form, optimize your website for the search engines.....you can do all of this with WP plugins.

Just Google WordPress and read up on it and there is no end of videos on YouTube showing you how to set up your site and do what you need to do.

Interesting to read the comments on them. I keep seeing their adverts on TV so I guess they are doing well.
Had no dealings with them myself since I could tell that they weren't looking good enough for what I wanted.

Looks like i had a lucky escape as i decided in favour of another host after looking at the packages and some sample sites i was not particuarly impressed, never looked back and not had any problems so far!

I will repeat what I said in a previous post. 1and1 are cowboys and a terrible company to deal with in any capacity.

Support is non existent
Features are non existent or charged for.
Customisation and configuration is clunky at best

I had lots of bad experiences with hosting companies and domain registrars for years.

I finally found TSO Host and they have been superb, brilliant price, superb support and amazing features.

The major problem with unlimited hosting providers is they oversell which cause downtime. Support is also a big issue with such companies the wont care much for small package customer's.
