Morning all.

I have signed up to 123 reg.

Once i buy a domain off off them can i produce my site in dreamweaver and then upload it through 123??

x

You need hosting to host a website, then you assign your nameservers in 123-reg to your hosting and then configure Dreamweaver to connect to your site and upload.

123Reg are OK for Domain Registration, but you would do well to actually host your site elsewhere. Registration and hosting don't have to be with the same company, and you are in better control of things if they are separate. If your chosen host fails then you can easily move your site elsewhere.

There are a number of high-quality hosts who are members here from which you can choose. A search on hosting will pull up threads that will give you the names.

Just a tip

Never place your Hosting and Domain Name in the same place, we use 123-Reg for Domain Names and had no problems with them. The reason for this is if by any change a company go bust then you only lose one of then if both at same place then you would lose both Domain and Website.

Hope this helps

No Name LTD

The site will be contain about 60 pages.

1 containting a flash banner small.

Some logos of other companies linking back to other sites

1 image per page maximum

On roughly a third of the sites, there will be "click here for example" .pdf file?

Customer Service with me was diabolical! I needed to change my nameservers at the time, it took 8 days to do this! I was made to pay a year, even though I opted out of the hosting within 14 days. (My fault for entering the contract I know).

Please have a look at some of the terrible reviews given on the company before making the mistake I did; http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews92855.html

It seems that with your "site" you wont be needing more than 100mb of hosting space, and i only say that rather than under 10mb because you mentioned pdf's.

I'd suggest as others have that you keep domains and hosting seperate, my recommendation for hosting is TSOHost, they are uk based and their support is superb, they are very used to dealing with non-tech people and respond in minutes to all queries 24/7 so can guide you through the process.

Domain reg with 123-reg is fine, i hold over 10 domains with them and dont have a problem, their prices are good and their control panel adequate - you simple go into the DNS settings and set them to the dns servers you are given from your hosts.

Someone suggested Fasthost. Here is a summary of reviews where they get 0.9 out of 5. Not good.
They are also known to take down sites after the merest whiff of shark, (aka lawyer), not only the offending site but also all the other innocent sites on the same server.
Avoid.

One of the things you need to be looking at is the bandwidth not just diskspace. The range of prices can differ but a thing to be wary of is do not go for anything unlimited regarding space or bandwidth. There are always limits when it comes down to these two, they are not going to let you 1TB of space for next to nothing. Always make sure you can be upgraded to another package if you find you have outgrown the package.

Thanks
Dave
