    LinkedIn can be useful, being an expat in China my network move around a lot, LinkedIn helps me keep track of the people that matter.

    Yes there are technical copywriters out there who can write a good description, try sticking an advert on odesk.com or any of their competitors and see if the prices are acceptable.

    Also recommend writing your own, I have setup a site a couple of years back using only manufacturers descriptions for the electronic goods on the site, once I took the time to swap them out with something I had written I started to see better rankings in Google.

    Yep also had glitches with FedEx (UPS too) website tracking showing all sorts of weird stuff when there is a problem with the shipment, the information you get over the phone will be the best.

    If moving the site is not an option I would go for a CDN to boost performance, I have been using CloudFlare.com on my ecommerce site as they take care of performance and also SSL for $20 a month.
