    They are normally terrible, terrible apps though. We use Gmail via our domains, and I have mine synced via IMAP to thunderbird so I have a offline mirrored backup. You also get loads of extra free web space for emails even on the free version of google domain apps.

    yes, if you haven't already you need to verify both www, and non www in GWT, then you select which is your favored domain. You shouldn't need to re-verify them though if you already have.

    Could be longer, could be shorter, could be never! Far to many things to consider that we dont know to give any kind of answer. Also you have to remember that in whatever sector you are in, every one else is doing SEO and fighting for the top spot.
