Hi Scott ,
I'm doing SEO for a living since 2006 and believe me - i know what "good SEO" means but that is not the point here.
Let me show you another example - please see the Google results for: "domestic cleaners albany park, chicago"

Hi,
Let me show you some live examples:
1. First exmaple: for the local business search: "bricklayers in enfield" , on top 10 of the SERP's you can see 2 jobsites (Reed and Indeed). The word "job" is not typed at all. Here is the search results url...
I'm in the SEO business since 2006 and loved Google until now. But not anymore.
For the first time I can say that big G is on the wrong track.
What i found with my latest studies is that Google ranks partnership sites in most of the competitive niches.
First example is Yell.com. If you search...
Zannon,
To have a success with your business directory, you need to make it stand out from the crowd. As others already said - if you are using "out of the box script" the chances to succeed are near to 0. You need to invest a lot of money into creating a custom build platform (with SEO in...
You can't remove negative reviews from Google, but you have an option to respond to them (your business needs to be verified in order to do it). Please check this link for more info: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3474050?hl=en
IMO this business directory looks very poor. The site structure is awful - I can't see category or location pages at all. Even a simple breadcrumb is missing. Comparing this directory to Yell is like comparing a shopping trolley to a Ferrarri :)
Hi,
To rank on top of SERP's you need to make your website stand out from the crowd. In other words - make your website better than your competitors. As some others already suggested - add enough quality content to your site. The good old cliche "Content is king" is still valid and always will...

To be honest most of the reviews you are seeing on Google+ a fake. The SEO's realized the power of the reviews and flooded the web. Unfortunately, these fake reviews do a pretty good job and small business owners need to do the same in order to be competitive. However, there is still ways to get...
SEO can look confusing but is actually not. If you don't try to manipulate the SE's you should be ok, no matter how many algorithmic updates Google/Yahoo will release.
Here is an interesting interview with Matt Cutts (head of the Google Webspam Team)...
If I were in your place, I would research the products on the web and will write a editorial review on every single product. These reviews will summarise the good and the bad points of each product.
That task will be time consuming but well worth the effort. On the first place - your users will...
The biggest mistake ecommerce sites are doing is to copy/paste descriptions on their product pages from manufacturers websites or from other websites on the web. Lets say your site has exact same descriptions like 10000 other websites. Why Google suppose to rank your product pages infront of the...
