Hi

I am looking for someone with very good technical knowledge who is capable of building a very large website as well as SEO etc to join me on a business project.

There is very little initial outlay; the idea has huge potential nationwide and there is not really any competition, offering what I am proposing, in the scale that I am looking at.

It will appeal to users of all ages and there would be no sign up fees etc for these users - all revenue would come from advertisers.

I am based in the North West therefore the ideal partner would be based within a reasonable distance of Manchester.

I am offering a percentage of the business in exchange for your technical input into creating such a large website needed for this project.

Hi Nicola

Ever thought of building your own website,or one for very little cost ?

You don`t have to be a techead these days as i have just built one myself.

It only took a weekend,and no HTML/Website knowledge needed.

SEO is a whole different ballgame tho as Google have it completely stitched up.

You will need to pay for expert help on this ( or as you said,get a pro partner who is converse in SEO knowledge ).

Hi, I have a lot of technical experience in IT, mainly on the Internet, although I decided not to do my own websites anymore as it bogs me down and prevents me form managing my business. I normally design what I want to do and subcontract it, I supervise it and approve it when ready.
Said so, of course I don't know much about your business project so I couldn't say if I would be interested in being a partner. Based on the fact that you expect the revenue to come from advertising I would initially say no, I have too much experience in that area to be optimistic about it.
But in any event, creating the website may be easier and cheaper than you think, and I may be able to assist you. There are a lot of things already made than can be customized to do anything you can imagine, and can be extended without limit, without the need to do the whole website from scratch.
But, with no more information I would be reluctant to work in exchange of equity.

I guess every web designer gets at least one offer like this every month - it normally goes, build me a website for free and I will give you x% of the massive profits sometime in the future - honest!

My advice would be before talking to a web designer, talk to a business advisor. If they can find a hole in your plan its going to save everyone a lot of grief!

Usually, the hole consists of a huge financial error based on the misconception that websites are practically free to run and advertisers are all desperate to throw money at anything.com!

Most of the site stats I've ever seen show that less than 10% of your visitors are willing to spend any money with you. Advertisers are only interested in lots of very focused potential customers so you need lots of unique visitors and lots of data on them to be able to charge good money.

The problem is - who is going to pay for your bandwidth while you are building up this audience? This 'free' web designer?

For every Google, Amazon and YouTube, there are tens of thousands of Boo.com's!

Thanks for your replies.

The business plan has changed completely since I originally posted that message.

It is a mixture of offline sales (my part) whereas I am currently in the middle of the start up (we launched in September) and I have already made a small profit on my first distribution - This offline approach is where the traffic will originally generate from for the website once built. Obviously the plan is to generate traffic from the search engines also but one obviously cannot rely on this hence why the offline part is just as important if not more in the first instance.

The website is a big big project and it is this offline approach that will ensure its success. I am now not looking at selling advertising space on the website, not in the first instance anyway, but revenue would be created from other sources.

Therefore I am concentrating on the offline approach first of all - then once that is established I will relook at the website side of the business.
