SEO software

I've never used this particular piece of software but I have used a few similar things and to be honest I think they're all a bit rubbish! (in my opinion of course).

They all seem to make promises which to anyone that knows anything about promoting a website seem a little stupid.. such as 'top placements guaranteed'

Personally I would save your money and invest it in some good books instead... just my 2 cence.

I have never met anyone who has had major success with seo software.
The best form of optimisation is created bespoke for the website.
I dont support seo software as not all websites are the same.
If your going to spend money get a consultant.
Shop around.
Remember one important thing, Cheap doesnt mean best. Every industry has competition the more competition the more work, the more your expected to pay.

We were looking for some form of SEO software to run a quick assessment of potential clients and we are currently looking at said software.

For this purpose it appears quite useful as it gives you a score out of 100 for the level of SEO that the site is currently at. I ran a test on our own site (internetsalesconsultants.co.uk) and got a score of 86% and then ran a score for a client who uses adwords but NOT seo - their score came out at a mere 30% for their target words (just to prove there was no biased either way to make you buy the software).

Whether its worth anything beyond this is another matter.

SEO software for evaluating sites is CRAP! Please understand I amnot being critical of you your services or your site here, I am just pointing out the following. The 'score' you talk of will be using things like keyword density, prominence, etc, which is ALL almost uselss these days.

Also SEO software can ONLY evaluate individual pages, which again is useless.

On 'PAGE' seo is pretty much limited to getting the title correct, and the proper use of heading and layout sprinkling the key phrases and related words.
'SITE' SEO is all about the architecture, the relationship and interlinking of the pages and the control of content across the site. Also inbound linking is a key to it all and software can't understand semantic relevance, so is pretty much useless at this also.

PLUS they comment on stuff on page that most CMS's & Shopping carts will NOT allow you to control.

Web CEO (and some others) is VERY good at running reports though which is what i use it for (and nothing else) !

Sorry I figured we were already in the context of talking on-site SEO
