PC Repair Business

Hi I plan to re-start my old PC Repair company as a bit of a sideline for extra cash.
I will need to change my house insurance policy to cover business usage.
From dooing a bit of research online I think I may need:

Public liability insurance -
Employers’ liability insurance
Professional indemnity insurance -

I have read I may need PAT testing as well as sometimes I may repair laptops or computers.
I also rent out my spare room on AirBNB so would need to cover that too.

I assume I just need to phone around but can anyone think of anything else I may need?

    Hi @pchealer ,

I would suggest you arrange your household policy to cover your home air bnb business. Most Insurers will not be able to extend your home insurance to cover PC Repair business.

Arrange a separate insurance policy for the PC Repair business. In addition to Public, Employers and Professional Indemnity, I would suggest you consider cover for business property and goods in trust (ie. other peoples property in your care).

Although Public Liability policy is there to cover loss or damage you cause to other peoples property - this excludes other peoples property under your care, custody or control. As such any damage you cause to other peoples laptops etc. at your home will not be covered unless you have the goods in trust cover in place.

Best to talk to an Insurance broker so they can give you advice on your specific circumstances.

I'm happy to help - feel free to contact me.

You only need employer's liability if you plan to have employees (I believe family members are exluded, but can't claim to be an expert)

Very few exceptions to Employers Liability cover, such as:
    - Only worker in the business is a sole director
    - A company where only family members work for the business

So as Mark suggests, you may not need Employers Liability Insurance cover.
