Road closed effecting trade

The road where our shop is will be closed for up to 10 weeks we are into the 2 week. We run a mobility business and the road has a disabled parking for our customers. This has caused a downturn in business as its not easy for customers to get to us on foot. What can I do? Ive not checked my insurance as yet and reading online there is no compensation scheme to help with the lose of trade. The road is closed due to building work and development of flats. Can I claim from the developers?

These things usually have to be agreed to BEFORE development begins and then the builders have to do something to ensure that you can continue to trade as part of the permission to begin works.

Being unable to trade would have been a weighty consideration during the application for planning permission.

You can try claiming from the developers but i doubt you will get very far. A couple years ago our high street was closed for 3 months due to a new sewer pipe being fitted. We submitted a claim but it got rejected as my loss was under 10% from the previous year. This would have been higher but i had a large one off order during this time which boosted my profit. Other shops were successful, but not many. The loss adjuster will find any reason they can not to pay.

The only letter we got was from the developers saying the road would be closed.

There is unlikely to be a planning application. It would have been a road closure notice.
In my experience, both domestic and business, notifications are physically posted through doors, letterboxes, etc. in advance of such action -but I don't know what regulatory requirements, if any, there are for this notification. Are there any?

If you pay business rates you should be able to claim back some of that. Ask the developers to put up 'businesses open as usual' etc. If they don't then approach the local newspaper, they love these kind of stories and the developer will not want bad publicity.
