Will my Ltd Co Business Debt affect my personal credit rating?

I'm winding up my 15 year old company as I've been full time employed for the last 2 years. I think I kept hold of it 'just in case' but now realise I was silly to do this.

In the last 6 months we have moved house and my office lease ended so I've been really silly and just forgotten about the business finances.

The company hasn't traded since August 2014. I owe CT of £3200 which I simply do not have. I'm about to clear my business bank account overdraft of approx £1000 (we bank with them personally) so don't want to create any headaches.

Late company accounts for year end 31.03.14 were filed with companies house and HMRC yesterday by my accountant. CT was due on 31.12.14. My annual return is due in the next week or two.

Will my debt to HMRC affect my personal credit reference file? I've worked hard over the last few years to ensure this is squeaky clean and I'll be gutted if it becomes marked because of this :(

Most of us would have suggested that under the circumstances you have outlined there was no need to file the company's accounts and that it would have been better for the company to be struck off. It would be interesting to know why your accountant felt it necessary to file

Thank you so much for the replies.

I did ask my accountant to hold off filing them after posts I had read on this forum, but he'd already done it in the previous 24 hours.

Today I will pay off my business overdraft in full. Can I close the business bank account myself rather than have it frozen and closed?
Do I close the company through companies house website?
The only creditor I have is HMRC - should I write the spongebob letter to them?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I do this as painless as possible.

Quick update,

Business overdraft was repaid and the company bank account is now closed.

I sent letters to Companies House in January by recorded post to ask for strike off - this notice has now appeared in the London Gazette at the start of Feb.

I also wrote to HMRC, again with proof of postage, with the Spongebob letter but despite this continue to receive - 'YOU OWE US...' letters.

So, I have just rang HMRC Debt Collections and told them company is in process of being wound up and has no assets. HMRC said they will update the file and MAY require more information from me?

Is this standard? I owe around £3,200 - do you think they will pursue this further?

I've just had a letter from HMRC asking what date the company ceased trading.

I last completed work and was paid on Sept 14, do I give them this date or the date of the Spongebob letter I sent them?

Sorry, I realise this is a ridiculous question to ask but I want to make sure I get this right so they don't chase me for CT I owe.
