Making A Little Extra A Month....

Greeting UKBF.

This is a question which is asked a lot of the times.. but I am now one of these people having to ask too.
I am seriously feeling the pressure of finances and costs

My fiancee and me a trying to save for our wedding day.
I proposed in August, and we are looking at venues, churches and all other manner of things.
But the cost of all of this is just crazy!

There are certain things we both really want.
But some of the things we are going to be doing ourselves.
- Cake
- Stationary
- Invites
- Favours

But, I would just like an extra bit of money which I can bring in each month on the side.
I currently have a very involved job which pays ok.
I work from 6am till 7pm in the evenings.
Bought a house last December but I wouldn't change that for the world.

I would feel so much better for earning that £25 or £50 extra a month which I can build up and save.
Yes, so little, but at the moment that would be a huge incentive for me!
My money keeps the house going, and living and my partner works full-time paying for food bills and other expenses (old loans) but trying to get money to save for this happy day is something I would work my a$$ off to achieve!
I budget well, having a spreadsheet which monitors both my finances and my partners so I know all of my incomings and outgoing's each month, but I would feel that much more secure having the little bit extra.
....and having a decent sleep instead of wondering how I can earn that little bit more! lol.
It was last night that I thought I would post here asking for some ideas and suggestions.

I have been thinking of ways I could gain money online / technically.
I am a PC savy person, I can design well, even thought about Web Designing but the market is over saturated.
I was considering affiliate marketing, but that is one hell of a struggle to receive any profits from.
eBay - Sadly, I cleared out all of my clutter when moving in to the house, so I really have nothing old to try and sell.
Online Surveys - I just don't trust them. I have yet to know anyone that does this.

I would like to think of something computer based as I know I am good when it comes to things like that.

I would appreciate it if any of the UKBF members have any suggestions / ways / methods which could just help that little bit for me.

Thank you all for reading and I look forward to your comments!

I suggest you and your partner getting a retail job say on a Sunday/evenings, that would easily achieve the income you are looking for.

Also do think about ways of minimising your wedding costs for example a buffet rather than a sit down meal will give you huge savings, or use a venue where you rather than the caterers supplying the drinks will also save you hundreds.

You want a memorable day which is special for you both, but not one that bankrupts you :)

Weddings! An excuse by everyone to put their prices up. No-one minds paying for stuff, but you do mind being ripped off.
This is a shameless plug, but i woudl appreciate you trying my website www.bobadob.com. Basically you enter what you want and let suppliers come back to you with their best prices. Hopefully may save you some bucks.
    Good luck.

    Hi Ethical PR,

Thank you for replying to me.
At weekends we enjoy to have a little time to ourselves (like everyone!)
I would prefer it to be a home venture / project that I attempt.
At least I can be with my partner.
Also, it will be me mainly trying to hit this goal of the little extra.

The venue and drinks costs are something I am still waiting to be finalised.

I agree it will be memorable and amazing.
    Certainly won't bankrupt me.
I think also it would be a good project for me to earn a little more too! :)

    Thanks again!

Have you considered a small work from home business? I'm currently promoting Body by Vi - I do so via facebook, twitter and little else, so if you're a bit tech savvy it may be ideal for you. I'm earning an extra £90 a month from a few hours a week at the moment and its growing business and residual income, the product is big in the US but new in the UK - launching in Feb. The business model is good, the back office system allows you to manage it all online. I'm new to these forums so I can't send you the link, but message if you'd be interested?

eBay. If you're only looking to earn a little bit extra then there can be few better ways to earn it than on eBay. I've been involved with micro-businesses in the past and some of them successful eBay businesses, started on a shoestring and bringing in a few thousand each month.

Obviously, that few thousand took time and effort but with less time and less effort, then what you're looking to earn is easily achievable and from the comfort of your own home.

Get yourself browsing the wholesalers and magazines such as 'The Trader', usually available at WH Smith. Set yourself up a seller account on eBay and as the good Lord would say, start smelling what is selling.

Good luck with it and don't forget to tell the tax man. He likes to watch eBay too.

Given that MLM is sales based, how can you generate income without a product to sell???

If you are getting paid to recruit people its a pyramid scheme and illegal.

    Hi FlackUK!

I'm new to this, however, I have bags of experience when it comes to computing from hardware, software to web-design. Now, if you have a designing background. I will implore you to check out fiverr.com. My friend is doing it now for motion-graphics and he's getting 10-15 replies a day, he easily could make 200-300 a week extra on-top of his wages.

    - Put up an ad
    - Make logo's for people's businesses via their requirements.
    - Add extra features for more money if your customers require.

My friend started 3 weeks ago and he's doing really well in a short time. Plus, you can work from home :).

    Hope this helps you

    Thanks for this.
    I've heard of fiverr.com but am I right it is $5 ?
So it would be around £3.13 in GBP?

Do you get the job if the Client agrees to the job or it is a case the website takes a cut then you have to wait to be paid...

Anyone made good money from this?

    Logos / Websites / T-Shirts / Wedding Invites / Icons i can do :)

    Thanks, Flack

They buy your service. You get paid £3. Don't give the market something that takes unbelievable effort and complexity. Just something basic and that fulfills there needs. You can always add optional content for your customers (in terms of checkboxes). You add the price to whatever you want for them. I.e. HD Logo +£10 etc...

February you say? I was invited to the official UK launch in Birmingham in July, attended by some of my colleagues who have been in the business since March when the americans came over in February this year. Someone may be selling you a pup there.

Bill you surprise me using that naughty word. I agree though it is not meant to recruit, it's creating opportunity through their story of how the product works for them.

It's taken me a long time to agree, but looking at the success of MLM & Affiliate marketing in the states we should really start taking traditional paid work vs internet, MLM marketing a serious look. This forum was created to people in business having access to information and help to others, others who might want to become entrepreneurs in their own right.

The way we promote our businesses is changing dramatically, the way we do business is changing and we have to change with it.

Just to note that I have nothing against MLM, I have been in two opportunities in the past but they didn't work for me, not to say that it cant work for the right people.

If someone gets round to doing MLM for cars, I would jump at it.

Fiverr take a $1 cut, so you only actually get paid $4 into your paypal.

You need to be smart on Fiverr. I used to offer to create designs for people in Google Sketchup. I remember when I just started I did a huge garden landscape for $5 and it took me ages. It burnt me out a bit so I decided to stop for a bit after that one. Then I got wise and started to play the clever game.

You ask people to contact you before purchasing the gig. When they contact you, you ask what they need done and you can give them a quote. You can quote anything you like. One job I had was a large house, and I think I quoted them $60. Still pretty cheap but I wasn't too bothered.

You can't pay $60 in one go on Fiverr, you have to ask the customer to order 12 $5 gigs, or you can set up 'Gig extra' which is an extra $10 or something. You can ask the customer to order two $5 gigs with two $10 extras.

I have about $160 sitting in my Fiverr account and I think I only did about 20 jobs, probably only about 5 big jobs. I spent some of that too so I probably had a turnover of like $200- $250 from those few jobs.

If you can work it then you can make it work.

Just an update, I have now got a Fiverr account, and now with my account setup with what I offer for $5 active and approved.

Lets hope I get a few interests.

You want a memorable day which is special for you both, but not one that bankrupts you :)

ethicalPR is completely right! I wanted to earn extra money before starting my own business andhave recently starting working for a very well known retailer and so far it working out just fine.

    Hi JimJamUK1

    Thank you for commenting.
Sadly neither of us have retail experience.
And to be honest, I couldn't cope with working in Retail.

Neither could my partner from working in Recruitment.

Thanks, again for taking the time to reply to this.

Maybe you could scale back the wedding plans?
Tell every one you are having an eco/green wedding and therefore it will be low key and minimilist.

    Hi Vvaannmmaann,

Sadly I cannot nor do not want to do this.
There are things we would like and want for this weeding, they are not stupid things we would like. But, none the less I'd try to earn that little bit more to make it possible.

You don't get paid to recruit, you get paid for sales of the product and sales of the products of your promoters... There is a product - Body by Vi, nutritional meal replacements which I've lost half a stone using (and not very strictly!!). The product launches next year, wholesale, advertising etc. Its currently being rolled out through MLM in pre-launch.

As someone who is very experienced in the supplement game, Body by Vi is an awful product which is incredibly overpriced.

The half a stone you have lost is likely mostly water weight and not fat.

Those who lose weight using such programmes (Herbalife, Body by Vi) put it all back on when they revert back to 'normal' eating.

You won't find anyone who is experienced and well known in the fitness industry who recommends such products.

As an example, a colleague of mine used a Herbalife shake which cost around £25.00. I found the exact same ingredient shake for over 5 x cheaper.

Also before I finish this rant, another problem with these schemes is that you are advising people on their diet and nutrition. Do you have any qualifications or a good idea of healthy, balanced nutrition? These schemes allow people who don't have a clue to sell nutritional products to other people who don't have a clue.

    Hey,

You say that you are computer 'savvy'. As you mentioned, web design is an over-crowded market and as previous people have advised Fiverr is a good website to make some extra cash, but have you considered other freelancing platforms?

    oDesk
    PeoplePerHour
    Freelancer.net

You will be able to pick up multiple odd jobs on these websites, anything from data entry through to web design, template editing etc etc the opportunities are endless!

Use these sites, take on many jobs to build a reputation and then maybe expand on that?

Just my suggestion anyway, take it or leave it :) Good luck!
