Hi everybody,

I am currently hosting my domain names on iPage but their servers are located in US so it's not the best thing for SEO, I want to transfer my domains here in UK but I have no idea about which company to choose.
What is the best quality/price here ?

I stand by Tsohost and the other Paragon Group companies such as Hostroute and Vidahost. Great company, great service, great results!

I'd say avoid Fasthosts and suggest looking at the Paragon Group (TSOHosts/Vidahost) or Iomart Group (EasySpace/Melbourne etc).

Both have decent infrastructures (although of different size - iomart slightly larger i think), and on the whole decent reviews.

To me a company should be judged on perhaps not so much their mistakes (as things are bound to go wrong at some stage), but how they put them right or ensure it won't happen again.

I heard of 123reg, is it a UK based Hosting company?

Hi,

Are you referring to 123-reg.co.uk, yes I believe they have UK servers, but they mainly know for there domain services.

Or are you referring to 123reg.com which look to charge in $ and there main website is in Dallas USA, by the look of it.

Are you guys speaking from experience or merely trying to boost your post count?
I talk from experience, when I was referring to NetHosted and Clook.

If you don't mind your hosting in Europe or USA check out HawkHost.

Over the years I have been lucky with picking hosting provides, be it for Shared, Reseller, VPS and Dedi servers.
But I do look into the company I am picking, and not go for the cheapest.

Some advise when picking a hosting provider:
These hosts that offer Unlimited Space, it does not exist, there is always a limit, unless you can tell me where to get unlimited hard drives.
Also don't go for the cheapest, as you get what you pay for

According to the review blog hostingcustomersuk.wordpress.com 123-reg ranks at the bottom with only 18% positive reviews so you better watch out. Many complaints about this provider. Linux Hosts Ltd. ranks as number 1 with 100% positive opinions. It happens to be our host and so far no complaints at all.

Where do i start, since as you;re comment has been deleted below.

1. Fake review sites are laughable, even more so, when they look like they were thrown together in 2 minutes

2. Linux Hosts Ltd, could it be a worse website? I would bet money on it, no one buys from there unless you're giving the hosting away for free, even then i wouldn't go near it with a barge pole

3. Nearly no business if not any business will have 100% positive reviews, its something every business will strive for, but i highly doubt any business has it!

4. No complains at all, well a few things, contrats that in 18 years of business (domain was reg in 1995 acording to whois) you've never had a complaint, however if you've been in business that long, surely you dont need to spam forums to gain traffic? Who are duoservers.com this is where the site redirects if you click buy now? then you click another link and it throws you to a different site? Seriously whats going on.

5. Simply the site is awful, again i repeat myself, but that site is that bad! Wait you're actually reselling hosting services, with nothing yourself? All through resellerpanel?

I also think it is illegal to pass your self off as a uk ltd company when you are not. (lawyers please chip in), even if its not illegal it is one for trading standards.

Linux Hosts Ltd is not registered at companies house as far as I can see, the closest was LINUXHOSTING UK LTD disolved in 2008, yet the website claims
All web hosting services are provided by Linux Hosts LTD., a UK based company, headquartered in London.

As always there are always spammers and trickster, only do business with someone you don't know after doing some due diligence.

My advice would be that you should not spend your money on web hosts that advertise on TV or in magazines.

You should choose a web host that is not too big (so they don't care) and not too small (so that they don't disappear overnight).

Reviews are important, but remember there are lots of fake web hosting review sites listed in Google. In fact, there probably isn't a genuine one! Maybe one day Matt Cutts will do something about it :)

    Good luck with the search.

Just to add to my post, I found this here http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=228561

According to Section 1197 of Companies Act 2006 - any unlimited company ending its name with: limited, public limited company, community interest company, community interest public limited company, or any abbreviations relating to the above...are liable to a fine.

Maybe Linux Hosts LTD need to take their site down quick to avoid a fine :)

Spammy Hosts (not)Ltd. ranks as number 1 with 100% positive opinions. It happens to be our host and so far no complaints at all.

Seems as well as misrepresenting the business falsly as Ltd, you are also in breach of your own FUP:

    http://www.linux-hosts-ltd.com/terms/acceptable-use-policy.html#SPAM_AND_SPAMVERTIZING

SPAMMING IS PROHIBITED. Users MAY NOT utilize our web hosting services to transmit, distribute or deliver any unsolicited bulk or commercial messages over the Internet (an action known as "spam" or "spamming").
Spamming is a violation of ethic norms and will be interpreted as an infringement. Linux Hosts Ltd. will not tolerate the sending of unsolicited bulk or commercial messages through our services, as well as through another service that is mentioning, in some way, our customer’s domain name or implies the utilization of our network or our e-mail services for sending the unsolicited bulk or messages.

In theory, someone like Rackspace are "the best" but then not exactly relevant to x% of people looking for hosting.

I agree. A company like rackspace really do deserve the moniker "the best" when weighing according to some measures. I was a very happy customer for 4 years or so but moved on a couple of years back for reasons of price when fanatical support gradually became less important to us (we learn't to do it all and co-location was much cheaper). Figure out exactly what service you want/need then be prepared to pay for a good implementation of it. I'm not of the belief you should muck around with something as critical as hosting if you are in etail and your site generates _all_ your revenue.

guys PLEASE don't reply to spammers and worse still don't link to their sites. ALL you are doing is getting UKBF listed in the scumworld as a place that WORKS!

Everyone complains about the levels of spam we get, but when you are quoting and replying and linking to spammers what else do you think will happen :(

    Cheers<OWG hot botherd and grumpy> :D

True. I think you have to accept that you will move hosting provider at some point - obviously you want to get to the point where you build your own data-centers right.

That said, take your time in investing in hosting and other infrastructure. One of the reasons I chose AWS and still choose AWS is that I know the infrastructure is obviously world-class.

Plenty of places to start without spam! If you want to get business spamming is the worst thing you can do.

Be helpful and knowledgeable and the business will naturally come in

As you know it is all about the meaningless spam posts that people make on their first post, for some reason this thread attracts the spammer, writing something that isn't helpful on their first post.

My comments was actually tongue in cheek of course.

There's a lot of hosting companies that operate in the UK.

There's the big ones, remaining nameless, who you'll find in cover to index in .net magazine and spending millions on expensive TV campaigns. There's the one man bands who try to make a little bit of extra income with no longevity or sustainable business plan, and will often disappear overnight. Then there's the middle of the road providers like us, and some other reputable providers that frequent this forum.

Make sure you do your due diligence on whoever you choose

    - reputation/reviews
    - length of time in business
    - services to meet your needs

    Matt

Probably a bit late, but we migrated one of our clients to Webbuzz shared hosting, and I've got to say it's lightening fast and no problems whatsoever. We'll definitely be using them more in the future

UK Hosting carries a hefty Price Tag, therefore many buyers prefer US Hosting companies. Hence, US Hosting companies are leaders in Web Hosting Industry. So, you must check with US Based hosts who can provide you Budget hosting.
