Not sure when.or where; but someone mentioned paying companies to generate leads.... Dose anyone have anymore info on this sort of thing? Also, where can I get a database with names of the person I need to speak to in a specific company, does that even.exist?

Lead generation companies are something I have used a fair bit over the years and they come in many flavors..... some offer you the ability to pay an hour rate for callers... who basically call out to a database which they have or you provide and deliver a specific product or service pitch... then they deliver the resultant leads back to you. Some will grade the leads based on how interested the recipient of the call was. They will do this as long as your paying for the hours or days. Others are far more specific in understanding your business and assigning someone that specifically understands your industry, and then obviously they are more expensive... I have had mixed results over the years.... but if you need exposure...they will certainly get you some.

There are many databases out there... I would expect that you will benefit from the same types of db sources that we do in IT as you basically need the names of corporate's and decision makers.

Hi Ian

We would always recommend that you select a lead generation company that you have been to see so that you understand how they work.

Some will charge on a daily rate, and some on a "per lead" basis - depending on exactly what you are looking for.

Anyone worth their salt will talk to you about your "pitch" and explain that good quality data is the key (with up-to-date company names, contact names, and phone numbers as a minimum). The lead generation business maybe able (and should be able) to help you procure data and also advise on what data you should look to buy - this is naturally based on your criteria for your target market.

Totally agreed, I would say don't outsource this essential activity in your business... keep it in house...get a trainee in, and get them to learn an area of your business and then put some real calling in with passion because they actually are a part of the company and their efforts are valuable and they can see it. I would say its far cheaper in the long run then paying out to companies who dedicate a few heads to call on a company they dont know and dont care about... clock watchers...

Maybe I am sounding a bit negative, but I have used a number of companies including some that were recommended by manufactures and others that were owned by manufacturers and it has never worked well.

There are still plenty of lead generation companies, like us, who can generate merchant leads. Most lead generation companies have their own database so all you need to do is specify your target market. Also they can provide a script for you based on your requirements and specifications. It is important that you choose a lead gen firm that has experience in merchant services.
