Are you still battling the hideous mess that is SagePay?

Why, for the love of science man, why??

Switching is a pain, but once you do it, your life will be better.

@Sysops what gateway do you use and with which shopping cart?

We use Magento and SagePay and would like to move away from SagePay but haven't found anything which integrates as well as SagePay does. The Ebizmarts SagePay extension is great which is why we've stuck with SagePay.

These guys:

With a custom cart. I'm sure they can point you towards a Magento module.

The difference in reliability and performance (compared to SagePay) is huge.

I sent them an email to ask for a test account so hopefully get this tomorrow so I can try it out.

I did download the extension though and noticed that if there is a failed transaction (failed 3d secure etc) a "Pending Payment" order gets created in Magento and the stock for the item is deducted.

This means you will end up with a bunch of pending orders and out of stock products (which aren't out of stock) if you get failed transactions.

I've noticed this with a few gateways I've tested which always puts me off.

Do you find this to be the case?

Yes, its a shame. I really liked the look of it otherwise and would have been perfect. It allows MOTO payments, refunds and payment via a link which is something else I would like.

I just don't want to end up with a bunch of pending orders and items showing out of stock which aren't.

This should be a trivial modification for any decent Magento developer. It's hardly a good argument for sticking with a sub-standard provider.

For us it is a good argument. If after testing an extension for no more than a few minutes we notice major issues with the core functionality of the extension (there are also some pretty bad usability issues with the extension) it's not something we really want to pursue and would rather find something else that works off the shelf.

There are plenty of other gateways so we will keep looking until we find a better fit for us. I don't see the point in spending money to make something work when I have no experience with the company so can't even be assured it would be worth it.

I'm getting a test account set up with Secure Trading and it sounds like their integration will work better for us so will test it out properly next week.

In other words:

"I'd rather spend hours of my time evaluating different payment gateways and Magento plugins, while putting up with poor customer service and reliability from my current supplier, than pay a developer £200 to get things working how I want".

Your choice.

I'm not sure where you pulled the complete random quote of £200 from but I can assure you it would cost considerably more than that to get the extension to a level we would be happy with.

Even if it did cost £200 I'd rather spend a few minutes testing other solutions rather that get an extension which requires major changes as this just leads to potential problems down the line when it comes to updates etc.

I would rather find something that works and will be supported rather than getting something that doesn't work and then paying someone to make it work.

I think you are overestimating the complexity of a Magento extension.

We are looking to move from Sagepay as settlement delays are happing often and usually we don't get notice by email, as we used to.
Even with notification there is no excuse for delaying our funds and we have never had any compensation for it.

Customers really did complain about the service timing out last xmas and lots of pending orders as a result.
The number is far less this year but still not acceptable.

We have had notifications for the last 2 days thay money has been delayed and quite a lot of funds have not arrived this morning.
Its opur busiest time of the year and we need to pay suppliers to get more goods in.
Sage Pay never apologise but just keep charging us.
Dreadful service
