Keyword and Domain - 'Coach Hire'

Hello all

we are just considering putting some SEO behind the keyword 'coach hire'. We currently sit on page 8 of the organic search results which we think is quite good considering the site is only 12 months old and no SEO has been done before. We have no back links and at present a very small amount of on page optimisation (when the site was built) which i believe has got us to page 8. Only two weeks ago we were on page 10.

We have also considered buying the domain coachhire dot com but at the moment the owner is asking way too much. If we could afford it do you think this would be a good move to help in moving up the rankings?

Also, if you have an idea, what do you think would be a fair price to pay for that domain?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi James,

I have recently started some DIY SEO which has been fairly successful getting us to page two.

My advice would be to signup for Google webmaster tools as part of signing for a normal Google account which will give you some helpful tips. If you also sign up for Google Analytics you will probably have to sign up for a campaign for £10 but it's not much. Then you can use the keyword tool under the reports and tools section which when you type in Coach Hire it will list other possible key words and the amount of global and local searches for each word. You can then make sure you are focusing on the keywords most searched for.

I checked for you Coach Hire has 301,000 global searches and 165,00 local searches monthly.

minibus rental 823,000 global. 550,000 local

bus hire 550,000 global. 246,000 local.

If you want further help PM me.

Hope this helps

You could do with more text on the homepage. Coach hire is relatively competitive so you want to work your homepage for this. You lack volume and relevancy. Google associate words with other words such as coach, coaches, bus. That will move you up higher including more text with such words.

I would change your title, you have Find local coach hire companies | Coach hire comparison.

You should have Coach hire | hire coaches and busses via our coach hiring comparison company or something similar

Your keywords tag is rammed full of words its just spammy, just change it to coach hire comparison or leave it blank.

Needs a lot of effort really.

When it comes to SEO you also need to remember that Google ( for example ) tailor results per person..

So page 8 for you may be page 500 for someone else or page 1 for someone else.
( Use GWT to find out the real metrics )

Other than this all you really need to do is concentrate on backlinks with anchor text saying "coach hire"

PLEASE! also remember to optimize for "Long tail" keywords..

    These are things like.
    coach hire in wherever
    coach hire companies in whereever
    etc etc etc etc

if you optimize for long tail words well, You can get more organic hits rather than targeting highly populated keywords.

Ensure you use the H1 and H2 tags in your html correctly.
Use ALT and TITLE text in your HTML.

Make sure you use unique titles per page,

Most of all MAKE SURE YOU WRITE YOUR PAGE FOR YOUR VISITOR!
Dont stuff the page full of keywords, Try and use your keywords in a natural way..

What do you mean by Keyword Tag, is that the Meta Keyword Tag? How did you know it looked messy because we thought there was only us that could view that????

We have just changed the title to

Coach Hire | Coach Hire Companies | Coach Hire Prices | Bus Hire

A lot of effort is required but taking all this in at once is a minefield, enjoyable though.

Whoa there ,never have two terms back to back as in:

coach hire coach hire repeating coach 3 times in the title is bad news and its not needed..

    try

coach hire find coach hire prices......"here you want to geo target major counties" untill you have enough back links for an attack on the title.

Your lad did a fairly good job on the content for the index page ,although as others have said could do with a lot more text and a couple of hundred pages.

None of that is correct. Analytics is free, as is the Adwords keyword tool.

You also need to learn how to use the tool properly. For a start, if you're targetting the UK then global results are worthless. For UK searches, the figure you want to look at is for EXACT searches not broad. As a term, "coach hire" infact only gets around 10,000 searches per month not 165,000! At the number one spot, you will probably see about 4,000 visitors.

try coach-hire.com or any extension as they will be just as usefull for ranking purposes.

Well that's not true either. Domains with hyphens or on any extension will definitely not be as useful for ranking purposes... Let me know how you get on with ranking coach-hire.mx or similar for the UK.

Anyone optimising their website should have personalised results turned off, which is what almost all users will see unless they have previously clicked on other results and have this enabled on a Google account.

Bad advice. Don't concentrate on backlinks with this anchor text too much or it will set alarm bells ringing. Obviously you do need many with this, but keep it varied and looking natural.

You don't optimise for long tail searches. They are longtail because they occur naturally, and you will likely not get more than a couple of searches for the longtail keywords in a month. If you're getting more hits than this, it's not a longtail keyword.[/quote]

    Thanks for the advice Affiliate.

When google says there has been 165000 searches a month locally for the term 'coach hire', does this mean every time somebody has searched with 'coach hire' as part of their term, e.g. 'coach hire in Derby'?

Try having a look at the SEO periodic table by SEO Land. It list the most important part of SEO and how much they help your site. I recently set out a 3 month project for a client to get them number 1 for their keyword I used lens, directory submissions and article submissions (it took less than 2 months hence why I'm not mentioning the keywords...although we do need to keep up the good work because of competitors)

I wrote a dissertation in SEO at University and it took me a bit to get my head round and fully understand. To get a decent amount of traffic you really need to be on page 1.

Try using geographic terms coach hire (location) etc, this will be much more achievable.

Sorry i thought he was trying to say that writing an essay makes you qualified but i read his prior post on a different thread wrong

Interesting market the electronic cigarette, google don't display ppc so i can imagine the top spot is very financially rewarding?

That's not a problem. I have recently mentioned my annoyance at the amount of people claiming to be experts with no experience or just 3 months experience. My point was that it takes a bit to get your head around even having studied SEO academically.

To answer your question about Electronic Cigarettes, yes it was very financially rewarding they take tens of thousands of pounds a week. It was a political mine field at times due to the naming of the product, safety issues (a lot of dodgy stuff coming from China) and the fact that it claimed to be an alternative to smoking. All the healthier aspects had to be removed from any text and in america they held the products in holding for months whilst the FDA in america Food and Drug Administration tried to get them banned.

All fine now though. Although I am sort of glad I am away from that. Nice people that work for the company, seem great products, although not enough long term testing at the moment.

    Frame it! :p

I'd be interested to know how you justified a lot of facts in your dissertation, sounds interesting :)

Come on you know yourself it's old now, It's 2 years ago! Did do a good job though and justified everything and put it in to practice on a real client. Offered free marketing to somebody whilst I got my head around it (remember you have a good 6 month for your dissertation) and when I left Uni walked into a job, can you ask any more than that in this climate?.

He never did pay me a penny!
