BUT

some contacts of mine want a website building for a korean restaurant
in central london

apart from

-wanting a cool pretty one that is easy to update
-wanting one that is economic to buy and build

they want it to allow customers to order actually on the site
(as opposed to calling them, though you will of course be able to call)

pretty basic really

AND obviously they'd need some advice on doing well on search for

`korean restaurants in london` (so not completely off topic)

any one not so brain cooked they can give any tips or pointers?

Well ranking shouldn't really be an issue, just some relevant links and maybe a blog talking all about Korean food etc etc

The ordering system shouldn't be hard to do, I guess you could work it just like a box tick email contact form.

I like the idea of being able to order online in fact!

Anyone of Joomla/Drupal/Wordpress etc etc ad nauseum will do the job. The replies you get here will depend on each persons experience of using/failing with each system.

Find a decent company, give them a spec and you'll get a solid solution.

I would recommend Wordpress. Easy to use and manage.

wordpress is the easiest to grasp,
but drupal will optimise best and offer a good range of possibilities for order features.

Coppock is right. Drupal is very good, a good deal more flexible than Wordpress. However of course this flexibility comes at a price of complexity. Thus be prepared to pay more for a Drupal site than you do for a Wordpress site (Design costs being the same of course).

You didn't say how big this restaurant is, or what socio economic group its target market is. But judging from your comment "Korean restaurant London" I can safely assume it's at the stage where it has yet to command brand recognition. Therefore I would go with the Wordpress Site and spend the remainder of the web budget on building brand recognition. Local directory submissions, getting on Google maps and creating a social media presence are good place to start.

With regards to that keyphrase, "Korean Restaurant London", it is worth bearing in mind that London is a heck of a big place. And a difficult one to navigate. I have dealt with so many clients that whant xxxx xxxx London. Basically every man and there dog are tagging London to their keyphrases. Be more specific. Go for longer tail keyphrases. Remember, it isn't volume your after, but conversion rate! You don't want 1,000 visitors and only 10 actually filling in the form because the restaurant is not what they were looking for or too far away (most likely).

For example Korean Restaurant Central London will get you more targeted visitors and a greater chance of converting them (ie, they are near to where the restaurant is, no-one is going to travel more than 10 miles outside their work place or home to a restaurant without a well known brand, and by that stage you don't need SEO)

Wordpress fulfils all the requirements. A simple contact form is all that is needed to order online. I recommend Contact Form 7 plugin as its easily the best form plugin for wordpress I have used. If the design is well done, then it is very easy for the client to update. If you can, get the .AI or .PSD file from the designers so if you do move to Drupal you have the template design to take with you as a base. (not many companies will give you the .PSD, so good luck, but still ask)
