Hello all,

I have launched a new business this week after 4 long years of developing a product which kept throwing up problem after problem. So after much persistence (almost threw in the towel on more than one occassion) am understandably pretty chuffed to eventually get it out there. Thought I'd share with you how it's going and some figures regarding marketing.

The website is Networkology.com - we host telephone based Networking events.

At the moment it's not so much about ROI, it's about driving traffic to the site and encouraging people to take the free trial and get involved with a new community.

So this week, we have done the following. Perhaps might be interesting for others with membership sites:

1) Email Marketing

Sent an email out to those who have either previously registered when we attempted a launch 2 years ago, or who had requested further info from the holding page we had up.

Result = 780 emails sent, 320 emails opened thus far, Link to site clicked 73 times, resulting in 32 new registrations. Cost £11.70.

Cost-Per-Member = £0.37, although this is not really a true reflection as there was a cost to initially drive those members to the holding page. Plus I will only send this email once so not an ongoing source of new members

2) Adwords

Have been targeting long-tailed keywords, plus a few of the biggies.

65,322 impressions, 83 clicks, CTR 0.13%, Av CPC £0.47, resulting in 18 new registrations, Cost £39.42 (although it was actually Zero as I had a £100 adwords voucher)

Cost-per-member = £2.19

3) Free-Lifetime Accounts

Have been offering some free-lifetime accounts on another forum I use. Current take up is 12, cost is £0.

Cost-per-member = £0, but revenue from these members will also be £0. However, as I say, it's about building a community first and foremost.

Next week we have 10hrs of telemarketing lined up, so will report back on this. Over the next few weeks will be getting involved with social media and direct mail too. Possibly some joint ventures as well.

Also more than happy to hear any suggestions from members on other ways of targetting small business owners.

Anyways, I thought this may be interesting for some people.

Thanks

Tref

It's always useful to keep track of how things are developing, but more importantly is how these figures relate to income generation.

Normally I would 100% agree. And in 6-12 months time, that is metric I will be looking to measure against.

However, for the time being, making money isn't the priority. With any events-based business, it will only live or die by it's members. If I can create a thriving community that holds fun and effective events then profit will eventually follow. But I firmly believe it has to be member-led.

Only my opinion of course, and I am often proved wrong :)

Only 4 clicks are from the display network Steve. I'm an amateur though lets not forget :)

The question is how many impressions are from that network.

If it's 60,000 then it's a problem with your display network campaign.

On the other hand, if it's 30,000, then there's a big problem with your search campaign. "Big problem" as in "Google's about to cut your ad impressions".

Hi Tref have you thought about creating a fanpage and trying Facebook ads? You can drill down to specific target markets and demographics and your cpc may be relatively lower than Google Adwords. Also if you do direct mail you should drive people to a free recorded message that gives them more information on the benefits of your service. This strategy alone will sift and sort tyre kickers from people that are serious.

Well, I certainly think you are onto a good thing there - great idea.

Spend your money wisely though, and with that in mind, speak to Steve Gibson about letting him run your addwords for you - you'll probably find you'll save money with a better ROI.

All the best

Not really looked into FB yet. Will dedicate a little time to it this week.

Thanks

Thanks ever so much for the feedback, glad you like the concept.

Am trying to spend a little on everything to get an idea of what works and what doesn't. Then will increase spending on the good stuff !

Thanks
