You will have probably spotted our current campaign to force the government to delay sexual harassment rules coming into force on Sunday. We've even started a petition on the Downing Street website. Power to the people!
We're not saying that employees don't need to be protected from sexual harassment - far from it - but what we are saying is that due to the fact that the rules were introduced on 14 March with hardly any publicity, small businesses have been given no time to prepare. Prepare what you may think; well whatever has to be done will cost small firms £10m, the government has admitted!
I'm staggered that yet more regulations could be introduced without consultation. I'm sure I don't need to remind you of the furore caused by the capital gains tax changes.
I've been badgering several spokespeople this week for more information about what's going on. A statement from one yesterday staggered me.
When I questioned her as to why no details appear on the Business Link website she said it has been "short notice" and advisors have "lots of regulations to deal with". My point exactly!!
Small business confidence in the government is at an all time low and now this! How many times do we have to say - consult us, give us support, provide us with information?
If you have any interest in forcing ministers to demonstrate that they really care about small businesses, I urge you to join our campaign.
