Why do people visit Yahoo?

I had a look at the Yahoo site earlier.
Probably the only the 2nd or 3rd time I have looked at it in 10 years.

Why is it still so popular?
Are most it's visitors USA based who treat it similar to how UK people use the BBC?

I really can't see any other reason for its popularity?

I have a a couple of Yahoo! email addresses.

The only time I "visit" the site is when I log out of my email address and I'm redirected to the main page.

I think it's easy to judge a book by its cover, however the actual content once you get past all the clickbait and ads is actually very useful

That is true in general, but Yahoo! now has a reputation for hosting content of very dubious quality, not to mention ads that take you to scam sites.

As Ozzy said, the emphasis is on low-quality clickbait articles. In the past I pointed out several examples of actual scams that were being promoted on Yahoo! (ads such as 'Richard Branson is sharing his secret to be a billionaire' / 'banks are mad because of this, make thousands a day' you get the picture).

So while it's true that for some content Yahoo! may still be visited, it's far from being the search engine quality powerhouse it used to be in the 90s, and it has to resort to crap like the above to turn a profit.

I agree with @SEO Developer regarding yahoo finance. They offer a lot of data, including downloadable historical daily prices.

News has a fair bit of rubbish, but quite a bit of interseting stuff you might not find easily elsewhere.
