Hi

Whilst browsing for a ecommerce platform EKM is popular but at the same time i see many are leaving or have left the platform for something else. Some responses i have seen are due to their poor customer service.

What's the experience like from everyone here?
Do you use EKM? are you happy/unhappy?
or have you left EKM and why did you decide to move on?

Not used it personally, but got clients on the platform

One of the main reasons my clients leave is because they have outgrown the platform and moved to a more custom solution.

EKM and other hosted platforms are great for start up ecom stores, but once they start to grow, the systems tend to limit the growth and changing the platform is a logical choice.

Some may leave because the support you get isn't a hand holding service, and some people will feel a bit daunted running it on their own, so they go to a service which offers more of the hand holding experience.

For everyone that leaves EKM, another 10 will join.

I have two shops with EKM, I did have one of my shops on a self hosted wordpress solution for a bit. I'll be as unbiased as possible, but in my experience the customer service has been relatively good, e-mails answered at all times of day and all issues resolved so far and the forums are really helpful. I have some design/coding knowledge so it's been relatively easy to modify, the templates are highly customisable if you know what you're doing. EKM will do changes and custom designs for you at a cost, which is fair enough really, why should they do it for free?

They are lacking some (well, a lot) of features that I would really like, however it is only £20 a month for a fully hosted solution that works all the time and is easy to manage so there is a compromise.

I could see how people out grow EKM though, it doesn't have detailed stats, automatic follow up emails to prompt reviews etc, currently no mobile support (although it's coming soon) and there were loads of features of Jigoshop that I wanted to use and would love to see on EKM. I think it's perfectly capable of supporting a large and growing e-commerce business, and they do seem to keep adding updates and new features (despite a poor roll out of a recent new update, the update itself is great but it was very very buggy when first launched)

I think people are looking at it the wrong way a bit, it's a great solution and you can have a shop up and running within hours and it'll keep you going until you're getting possibly hundreds of orders a day, would it support the next ebuyer.com? no probably not, but it's only £20 a month.

It does what it says on the tin, if my shops get massive I might consider changing to get some of the features I crave. (check out betterbathrooms.com i love that site and wouldn't mind knowing what platform its on if anyone knows, obviously a custom high end solution) but for now EKM works well, is reliable and is very easy to manage.

Hope it helps.

We get people come to us when they outgrow EKM, on the flip side if a start-up comes to us with a £20pm budget and wants something just to get them going we usually recommend EKM or an eBay Store (depends what they're selling usually).

I think for the price point EKM are pretty good value for money. I have seen others try to break into this model over the years (and fall by the wayside) and new ones come and go all the time.

At least with EKM (and their huge client base) it gives you some stability/reassurance and they're also UK based. I'd rather that, than putting your business in the hands of a new comer to the sector (trying to undercut them for a few quid) who probably won't be around long.

We have been with EKM for many years. Their basic plan has just increased to £55 per month.
They were bought by a card processor and now customers just seem to be a cash cow to be milked every month.
If you dont switch to their own in house card processing then they will hit you with transaction fees on every order.
Their customer service is great , quick replies and good advice but when you feel like you are being mugged every month it's just not enough.
