What's a PayPal eCheque?

A couple of times a year my website receives a PayPal payment that is an eCheque. It will be accompanied by a email saying that the payment will take 7-10 days to clear and advising not to send the goods until this has happened. Strangely, the customer sometimes is puzzled by this.

I just wondered what this was about.

An echeque is an electronic funds transfer from your bank account, rather than a direct debit payment (normal paypal method) or card payment.

Basically it's a way for users to fund payments if they don't have a valid credit card on file with PayPal. The downside is that it's not an instant payment. When you send money with an eCheque from a UK bank account, the transaction is held as pending for seven to nine working days, until the electronic funds transfer clears your bank.

The money cannot be charged back either, as it wasn't funded by a card.

yeah its when the buyer chooses to pay from a bank account rather than a card. Absolute nightmare of a thing and you MUST wait for it to clear. I say about 25% dont clear, and why it takes 7-10 working days to work this out is beyond me!
