What would the transfer fees for a .co.uk and .com be?

I'm just thinking of buying a domain both .com and .co.uk.

Transfer fees are not included in the price.

How much are they likely to be and are there any other hidden costs I should be aware of.

Neither site is currently live.

The place where you register the domains should show what their Transfer Out fees are. Most places are free. You should never pay Transfer In fees (i.e. to the company you're transferring to) if you're also getting hosting - if someone wants to charge you for transferring a domain to them and you're buying hosting from them at the same time, go elsewhere! Most places give a free domain with the hosting.

Your best bet for registering domains is http://www.123reg.co.uk - it's cheap and gives you full access to your domains. You won't have to move them from there if you decide to use the domains for hosting a website later on, as you can just change the nameserver settings at 123Reg to point to your new hosting. This also means your hosting and your domains are kept separate, which is often a good thing, especially if your hosting company goes bang or turns out to be unreliable. There is a small fee for transferring some domains to 123Reg (£4.99 for uk, £19.99 for .com including an year's renewal) so it's not ideal for transferring in, but once that's done at least you have it in a reliable place that you control.

These are existing doamins, that are currently parked.

Got the hosting and all that, deal was ££££ + transfer fees, just checking what the transfer fees might be.

So my guess is up to £25 for the both

At the risk of self promotion... we sell them for £4.97 per year including all taxes etc

We allow you to change your DNS as many times as you like for free - I have a feeling that 123reg charge for this and they may well add tax at the end to make their prices look cheap at first glance.

Phil, your guess is probably about right though it should be less. If you let me know what the domains are (just send me a PM through this forum) then I can find out a bit more for you (all confidential of course!).

Rob, 123Reg have never charged me for changing DNS or anything else to do with the domain. Not sure about the tax, but as I'm VAT registered it's never really been an issue.

Ah, Easyspace...ahem... :roll: I would certainly transfer the domains to somewhere that's easier to manage. They don't seem to say what the transfer costs are - they just talk about changing the nameservers, which is different. For your UK domain you actually want to change the IPSTAG so your domain is completely moved to the new company, rather than just pointing to them. For the .com you want to change the Registrar - the new domain management or hosting company you use will tell you what to do (and feel free to give me a buzz if you get stuck).
