lol will agree Jilly, blogs are like people standing in a shopping centre in Croydon talking about everything in their life. If only I had the opportunity to click the close button when I'm standing around waiting for someone to turn up :p

Online log = Blog

They are handy to have but the Internet is saturated with them now. Sure there's a few good ones about specialist lives but most are just the same old and never get any visitors.

So if you want a successful blog in my opinion you need to be a good writer, have a unique topic and a generally interesting life.

A lot of blogs are indeed rubbish, and there are also a huge number of spam blogs. I blog for my businesses, but I also blog for fun: I've got a personal blog - www.lostearthman.com - which doesn't carry any advertising and I just write for fun, though I haven't updated for two months. I'm also starting a not-for-profit-right-now-but-maybe-later blog soon that I want to develop and maybe turn into a book one day - blogging is good for big writing projects like that because you can get comments and feedback as you go along, and you learn to adapt to what the audience wants.

You can also make pretty reasonable money off blogs if you know what you're doing and you really make an effort to join the community, do your Technorati tags and all the rest. Some top blogs:

The Dawg Blog
Random Acts of Reality
Boing Boing

And if you're thinking about making dosh out of your blog, Problogger is really useful.

If your going to blog make sure you link to your internal web pages on your site so the search engines find your deep pages faster. If your using a blog system like blogger.com you can use the upload feature and host it on your own site like (www.domain.com/blog)

Some people have bad opinions of blogs and say its all spam etc but to be honest most serious cloakers etc now use different tools as google and co are getting very good at spotting spamblogs

Hi,
Create a folder called domain.com/blog or what ever you like then use blogger.com publishing tools to set up ftp. If your new to this i suggest you ask your host to give you the correct paths then your off and running.

You can use a blogger.com tool for word which will let you blog the document your typing which is ideal for newbies
