I work in full time employment but also run a business on my days off with my wife as a partner. We run as a partnership and every year I have a friend who is a tax inspector that comes and checks my books plus fills in our tax returns for our employment and our partnership.
Is there any point in having an accountant?

Could you please reply to [email protected] with any advise.
Thank You
Malcolm

Definitely have to agree with Rob on that one. Despite being your friend, a tax inspector works for the Revenue whereas your accountant works for you. As a result they are coming from opposite directions when deciding what to claim on a tax return. Accountants spend a significant amount of time arguing (often successfully) with tax inspectors over what is and what is not allowable.
